Abstract

The application concerns the use of hydrogen peroxide and 17β-estradiol and its metabolites in a method for in vitro diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases, especially Parkinson's disease, characterized in that the method for diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases comprises the analysis of the level of hydrogen peroxide and 17β-estradiol derivatives in blood serum, after their prior isolation from the patient's blood and derivatization with dansyl chloride, wherein a neurodegenerative disease is diagnosed when the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the tested sample is higher than the concentration determined for a healthy control and when in the tested sample the concentration of hydroxylated derivatives of 17β-estradiol is lower and the concentration of methoxylated derivatives of 17β-estradiol is higher compared to the concentrations determined for a healthy control.
