Abstract
The subject of the application is porous polymer-ceramic composites modified with cholesterol for use in bone tissue filling and regeneration, as well as a method for their preparation. The porous polymer-ceramic composites are characterized by their matrix being polylactide, a biodegradable polymer. The filler is a three-phase calcium phosphate in the form of thin fibers (whiskers), produced by a semi-hydrothermal method, and the entire system is enriched with an active compound in the form of water-soluble or insoluble cholesterol. The method for preparing the composites is characterized by a three-stage process. In the first stage, the three-phase calcium phosphate is produced by a semi-hydrothermal method. Then, after placing a precursor of calcium and phosphate ions in a hydrogen peroxide solution, the reaction mixture is stored in tightly sealed containers, then filtered, washed with deionized water, and dried. In the second step, the prepared and dried calcium phosphate fibers are modified with cholesterol. In the third step, a solution of polylactide in 1,4-dioxane is prepared and the previously obtained modified calcium phosphate fibers are added to it. The mixture is mixed until a stable dispersion of fibers in the polylactide solution is achieved. The resulting suspension is transferred to a mold of the desired shape and dimensions and freeze-dried.
