The subject of the application is an air purification cartridge characterized in that it comprises an at least partially transparent container (2) with at least one air inlet (3), filled at least in part with microalgae suspended in an at least partially transparent hydrogel stabilizing composition that comprises at least one microalgae growth medium, at least one gelling agent, and at least one plasticizer. The subject of the application is also a suspended air purification system characterized in that it comprises a housing (6) with at least one element for securing to the environment and an cartridge replaceably disposed in the housing (6), the housing (6) having a shape and size adapted to accommodate the cartridge substantially stationary and having an opening (7) allowing access of external light to the cartridge.The subject of the application is also the use of Cyanidioschyzon merolae or Galdieria sulphuraria for air purification in rooms on earth and in space.
