Method for producing terephthalic acid with a reduced share of fossil-based raw materials

Abstract

The subject of the application is a method for obtaining terephthalic acid, which consists in oxidizing a mixture of p-xylene and p-cymene in a volume ratio of 15:1 to 3:1 in the presence of 0.1% to 1% by mole of a cobalt (II) compound calculated on raw materials, 1% to 5% by mole of bromine-containing compounds calculated on raw materials, in acetic acid as a solvent, with oxygen-containing gases, under a pressure of 1 MPa to 3 MPa, the process is carried out at a temperature of 130°C to 190°C for 1 hour to 6 hours.
