Abstract
The subject of the application is a heterogeneous ink composition with a metallic effect and a method for its production. The ink composition comprises a solvent base and a pearlescent pigment having a particle size of 5 µm to 60 µm, which is natural mica or synthetic mica, the surface of which is coated with titanium dioxide, wherein the total pigment content in the printing ink is from 10% by weight (w / w) to 30%, and the amount of solvent base is from 90% by weight to 70% by weight, respectively, and wherein the base is propyl acetate (CAS 109-60-4) in an amount of 50% by weight to 80% by weight, ethanol (CAS 64-17-5) in an amount of 10% by weight to 20% by weight, 1-ethoxypropan-2-ol (CAS 1569-02-4) in an amount of 3% by weight. to 5% by weight, ethyl methacrylate (CAS 97-63-2) in an amount of 1% by weight, ethyl acetate (CAS 141-78-6) in an amount of 6% by weight to 24% by weight. The composition is obtained from a solvent base and a pigment, wherein first a solvent base is prepared from propyl acetate in an amount of 50% by weight to 80% by weight., ethanol in an amount of 10 wt.% to 20 wt.%, 1-ethoxypropan-2-ol in an amount of 3 wt.% to 5 wt.%, ethyl methacrylate in an amount of 1 wt.%, ethyl acetate in an amount of 6 wt.% to 24 wt.%, after which the base is mixed with a pearlescent pigment in the form of mica with a titanium dioxide coating of particle size from 5 µm to 60 µm, wherein the components are used in the following amount: solvent base from 90 wt.% to 70 wt.%, pearlescent pigment from 10 wt.%. up to 30% by weight, wherein in the first stage a suspension of pigment and solvent base is prepared by mixing the ingredients in the amount required to obtain a suspension and leaving for at least 6 hours, while in the second stage the obtained suspension is mixed with the remaining amount of the prepared solvent base until the pigment is evenly dispersed, after which the viscosity of the finished paint is measured. If necessary, the ink's viscosity is adjusted by adding a mixture of organic solvents consisting of 70% ethanol and 30% ethyl acetate. The prepared ink is then applied to the substrate using flexography or rotogravure.
