Abstract

The subject of the application is a method for processing selected pure or waste plastics containing at least 90% polyethylene or polystyrene to obtain a gas mixture, particularly synthesis gas containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. The application also covers a system for processing pure or waste plastics. Waste plastics may originate from plastics production or purified industrial or municipal waste with a selected plastics content of at least 90%. The application has practical applications in the processing of waste plastics, particularly waste fractions from the processing of polyethylene or polystyrene products, non-recyclable plastics production residues, and plastic fractions from waste disposal plants, provided that the plastics in question are separated from other materials.
