Method for manufacturing forged tow hooks for passenger cars

Abstract

A method for manufacturing tow hook forgings for passenger cars, comprising a step of forging a charge, is characterized in that the charge is made of sections of a round bar cut to the required length, said sections of which are heated to a temperature in the range of 925°C to 1205°C before the forging step, in the forging step the heated charge is first subjected to an open-die forging process, in which the charge is upset, flattened and elongated to obtain the shape of a blank, and then to a hot die forging process, in which the blank produced in the open-die forging process is subjected to a bending process in a bending impression, then to a forging process in a pre-die forging impression and finally to forging in a die forging impression, the forging obtained from the die forging process is hot trimmed from the flash and then shot-blasted to remove scale.
