Abstract

The subject of the application is a system for dispensing a stream of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) into a water / wastewater solution, shown in the drawing. The subject of the application also includes a method for purifying wastewater and removing pharmaceutical residues from water, e.g., diclofenac (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug), sulfamethoxazole (an antibiotic), or trimethoprim (an antibiotic), using cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) generated by a pulsed arc. The working gas used to generate the plasma stream is atmospheric air, but may also be oxygen, argon, or helium. A method for removing pharmaceuticals from water and wastewater using a system for dosing a stream of cold atmospheric plasma into a water / wastewater solution as described above, wherein cold plasma is generated at a pressure of 8 to 10 bar and the stream of cold atmospheric plasma consists of ions, electrons, reactive oxygen and nitrogen radicals, ozone and UV radiation is characterized in thatthat it includes the steps: an aqueous solution or solutions of treated sewage containing selected pharmaceuticals is prepared; the prepared mixture is divided into portions of a specific volume and subjected to the action of a stream of cold atmospheric plasma above the liquid in the form of a single stream at a minimum distance allowing for the creation of a plasma cone, at a distance of 10 - 100 mm from the liquid surface and for a time of 15 seconds to 20 minutes, whereby a funnel-shaped plasma cone is created in the shape of an inverted funnel and the solution is mixed with plasma, and above the liquid surface the samples are mixed turbulently with the resulting conical funnel, and the Reynolds number Re≥4000, the liquid is analyzed after the process.,
