Method for joining poly(dimethylsiloxane) and poly(ethylene terephthalate) and application thereof

Abstract

A method for joining a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) layer and a poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) layer comprises the steps of activating the surface of the PET layer with oxygen plasma, modifying the activated PET surface with polydopamine (PDA), activating the surface of the PDMS layer with oxygen plasma, and contacting the polydopamine-modified PET surface with the plasma-activated PDMS surface to permanently bond them. The method finds application in the fabrication of microsystems, in particular Organ-on-a-chip microsystems.
