Prosthetic abutment with functionalized transgingival surface

Abstract

The invention relates to a prosthetic abutment with transgingival surface functionalized with zirconium oxide and to a method for making the same, to be used in medical dental technology. According to the invention, the abutment is made by lathe machining of a blank of prosthetic abutment (2) made of Ti or Ti-6Al-4V on which a zirconium ring (3) is mounted by cold pressing, using an inserting ring (4) and a brass device (5), the assembly consisting of the abutment (2) and the zirconium ring (3) being subjected to thermal oxidation to result in a zirconia layer (6) of variable thickness. The method, as claimed by the invention, consists in making a zirconia layer (6) in crystalline form, by thermal oxidation at 350⋯550°C, leading to diffusion welding of the assembly which consists of a prosthetic abutment (2) and a zirconium ring (3), concomitantly with the formation of the zirconia layer ZrO2 (6) on the zirconium zone and TiO2 on the Ti or Ti-6Al-4V zone of the prosthetic abutment (2).
