Claims
1. A method for cleaning iron-containing materials, comprising: leaching of one or more soluble types of impurities from iron-containing materials, wherein said leaching includes leaching with a leaching solution containing fluorine.
2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the leaching solution contains ammonium fluoride (NH4F) or ammonium hydrogen fluoride (3NH4⋅HF2) or mixtures thereof.
3. The method according to any one of paragraphs 1-2, in which the leaching solution contains ammonium bifluoride (NH4HF2).
4. The method of claim 1, wherein leaching comprises dissolving impurities using hydrofluoric acid (HF), alkali metal hydroxides (e.g. NaOH and KOH) and / or high temperature melts (e.g. molten chlorides or fluorides or oxides).
5. The method according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the leaching solution comprises sodium fluorophosphate (Na2PO3F).
6. The method according to any one of claims 1-5, wherein the molar concentration of the fluorine-containing component of the leach solution is from 100 to 10,000 ppm.
7. The method according to claim 6, wherein the molar concentration of the fluorine-containing component of the leach solution is from 500 to 5000 ppm.
8. The method according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the iron-containing materials are iron ores, iron and / or intermediate products thereof.
9. The method according to any one of paragraphs 1-8, further comprising adjusting the pH values of the leach solution.
10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the pH values are adjusted in the range from 8 to 13.
11. The method according to claim 10, wherein the pH values are adjusted in the range from 7 to 9.
12. The method according to claim 11, wherein the pH values are adjusted in the range from 5 to 10.
13. The method according to any one of paragraphs 1-12, further comprising adding a soluble iron salt to the leaching solution.
14. The method of claim 13, wherein the iron salt comprises one or more compounds selected from ferrous sulfate; iron(II) sulfate, ferrous chloride, ferric nitrate, ferric sulfate, and / or ferric chloride.
15. The method according to any one of paragraphs 1-14, further comprising adding iron ions to the leaching solution.
16. The method according to any one of paragraphs 1-15, further comprising adding one or more corrosion inhibitors to the leach solution.
17. The method according to any one of paragraphs 1-16, further comprising recycling the leach solution.
18. A method for cleaning iron-containing materials, comprising: leaching of one or more soluble types of impurities from iron-containing materials, wherein said leaching includes dissolution by adding flux.
19. The method according to any one of paragraphs 1-18, further comprising forming a battery electrode using purified iron-containing materials.
20. The method of claim 19, further comprising placing the battery in a large-scale energy storage system.
21. The method of claim 20, wherein the large-scale energy storage system is a long-term energy storage system (LODES).
22. A battery and / or large-scale energy storage system comprising at least one electrode formed at least in part in accordance with the operations of the methods of paragraphs 1-21.
