Abstract

A method of topographic orientation for detecting the nerve ring in the larvae of parasitic nematodes of the order Strongylida using dark-field microscopy involves using a light microscope capable of operating in both bright-field and dark-field modes. When examining a nematode larva in a lateral position in a microscope slide, the microscope is switched from bright-field to dark-field mode; a dark formation corresponding to the position of the nerve ring is observed in the anterior third of the larva.
