Claims

1. An aerosol generating article comprising: aerosol generating substrate; a downstream section extending from the downstream end of the aerosol generating substrate toward the downstream end of the aerosol generating article, wherein the downstream section defines an air flow path through which the aerosol can flow from the aerosol generating substrate toward the downstream end of the aerosol generating article; at least one wrapper surrounding at least a portion of at least one of the aerosol generating substrate and the downstream section; and an aversive component comprising a thread-shaped substrate or a strip-shaped substrate and an aversive substance absorbed in the thread-shaped substrate or the strip-shaped substrate; wherein the aerosol generating article is designed in such a way that the aversive component is not in direct contact with the air flow path such that the aversive substance is substantially prevented from entering the air flow path.

2. An aerosol-generating article according to claim 1, characterized in that the aversive substance contains at least one of denatonium benzoate (bitrex), columbin, amarogentin, quassin, absinthin, and quinine hydrochloride.

3. An aerosol generating article according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the concentration of the aversive substance is at least 2 parts per million.

An aerosol generating article according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that at least one wrapper comprises a radially inner wrapper portion and a radially outer wrapper portion, wherein the radially outer wrapper portion overlaps the radially inner wrapper portion, wherein the aversive component is located between the radially inner wrapper portion and the radially outer wrapper portion.

5. The aerosol generating article of claim 4, further comprising at least one ventilation zone for allowing air to enter the aerosol generating article, wherein the ventilation zone comprises a first row of perforations extending through the at least one wrapper.

An aerosol generating article according to claim 5, characterized in that at least one ventilation zone is provided near a section located further downstream of the flow and comprises a first row of perforations passing through at least one wrapper, wherein the first row of perforations comprises a gap in which the aversive component is located such that the perforations do not pass through the aversive component.

An aerosol-generating article according to any one of paragraphs 4-8, characterized in that the radially inner portion of the wrapper and the radially outer portion of the wrapper are a portion of the rim paper, a portion of the outer wrapping paper, a portion of the unifying wick, or a portion of the wick surrounding a component of the aerosol-generating article.

An aerosol-generating article according to any one of paragraphs 4-6, characterized in that the radially inner portion of the wrapper is part of the first wrapper, and the radially outer portion of the wrapper is part of the second wrapper, wherein the aversive component is located at the overlap of the first and second wrappers.

9. An aerosol-generating article according to claim 8, characterized in that the first wrapper, containing a radially inner portion of the wrapper, is an outer wrapping paper that combines a wimple or a wimple surrounding a component of the aerosol-generating article.

10. An aerosol generating article according to claim 8 or 9, characterized in that the second wrapper, comprising a radially outer portion of the wrapper, is an outer wrapping paper that combines the ficella or tipping paper.

11. An aerosol generating article according to any one of paragraphs 4-10, characterized in that the aversive component is attached to at least one of the radially inner part of the wrapper and the radially outer part of the wrapper by means of an adhesive.

An aerosol generating article according to any one of paragraphs 1-3, characterized in that the downstream section comprises a tubular segment comprising a wall and a hollow lumen defined by said wall and forming a channel for an air flow extending from the upstream end of the tubular segment in the direction of the downstream end of the tubular segment, wherein an aversive component is built into said wall of the tubular segment.

13. An aerosol generating article according to claim 12, characterized in that the diameter of the hollow lumen is at least 45 percent of the total outside diameter of the downstream section.

14. An aerosol-generating article according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the thread-shaped substrate is generally aligned with the longitudinal axis of the aerosol-generating article.

15. An aerosol-generating article according to any of the preceding claims, further comprising an outer wrapping paper, wherein the outer wrapping paper comprises an impermeable coating to prevent migration of the aversive substance to the outer surface of the aerosol-generating article.
