AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing aluminothermic welding technologies fail to achieve defect-free connections of rails with defects in the rolling surface area of the rail head, as either increasing pouring speed to prevent underfills or reducing it to remove gases and slags results in incomplete removal of defects.

Method used

A casting mold design with lateral vents, side channels, and expanded internal cavities that allow controlled pouring and simultaneous surfacing with thermite metal, ensuring removal of gases and slags while preventing underfills and defects.

Benefits of technology

The mold ensures defect-free connections by allowing controlled pouring and simultaneous surfacing, eliminating gas pores, slag inclusions, and underfills in the rail head area, achieving a seamless weld.

Abstract

FIELD: welding.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a casting mould for aluminothermic welding of rails and can be used in the conversion of an existing section track into a continuous track. The casting mould for aluminothermic welding of rails includes two halves of the mould, each of which comprises a lateral shrink head, the upper part of which communicates with the atmosphere, and the lower part of which communicates with the lower part of the welding cavity. The cross-sectional area of the shrink head in its lower part is larger than in its middle part, and also larger than in its upper part. The casting mould includes two upper lateral channels, each of which communicates with its upper part with the space above the casting bridge, and with its lower part with the lower lateral channel, which is connected with its lower part with the lower part of the welding cavity; two middle channels, communicating the upper lateral channels with the middle part of the welding cavity in the area of the rail heads; two upper channels, communicating the upper lateral channels with the upper part of the welding cavity above the rail heads. In addition, each of the half-forms is made expanded to form an internal welding cavity in its middle and upper parts with a width greater than the length of the defective zone of the rolling surface of the rail head adjacent to the weld, adapted for surfacing said zone with thermite metal, simultaneously with welding the ends of the rails.EFFECT: defect-free connection of the ends of rails that had defects in the rolling surface area of the rail head.9 cl, 9 dwg
