Description

[0001] Technical field

[0002] The invention relates to the field of conveyor systems for use in moving products, for example, when delivering orders in chain restaurants, bars, cafeterias, etc. More specifically, the invention relates to a system for supporting and stabilizing a transport basket when it moves along a conveyor between loading and / or unloading zones.

[0003] Technology Level

[0004] The applicant has developed and is proposing an overhead conveyor system based on a continuous track assembled as a closed loop containing a continuous "chain" of small wheeled carriages connected to one another. The track is suspended from the ceiling or wall and can extend through a building from the loading point to the unloading point and back. Food products to be transported are typically in boxes or bags, which are placed in transport baskets moved by some of the wheeled carriages. Multiple means may be provided for unloading or removing packages or bags from the transport baskets and placing the food products in a chute.

[0005] Another food transport system for vertically transporting packaged food products from one floor of a restaurant to another floor of the restaurant is described in U.S. Pat. No. 7,708,135. The food transport system comprises a conveyor that transports transport means supporting the food products along a closed loop path defined by a belt or chain to which the transport means are rotatably connected. Although transporting food products placed on transport support means is convenient, a belt- or chain-based conveyor system has less design flexibility in terms of space utilization and zigzag transport paths.

[0006] Document US 2021 / 0094761 of the applicant also relates to a conveyor system for transporting packaged food products in restaurants, etc., which provides flexibility in layout design. Flexibility in layout design is provided by a conveyor system based on a guide with transport support means on which the food products to be transported can be placed in the loading zone. The food products are then transported to a customer at a delivery location located remote from the loading zone. Here, the packaged products are loaded onto transport means in loading and unloading zones. In a preferred arrangement, the transport means are defined by baskets (transport baskets) having a set of support bars that extend in the form of a cantilever from a single rear support, which is pivotally attached to a carriage that can move along the conveyor guide. The support bars of the transport means are aligned with the spaces located between the support bars or rollers of the loading / unloading zones. The contents of US 2021 / 0094761 are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.

[0007] Although the known designs have proven themselves to be adequate in operation, it would be desirable to improve the functionality of the system in terms of damping or suppressing the rocking movements of the conveyor basket as it moves along the path determined by the conveyor.

[0008] Disclosure of invention

[0009] The present invention relates to a self-damping rotary joint of a transport basket for a system of a device for transporting transport baskets with a plurality of carriages configured to move along a trajectory, and at least some of which contain a transport basket connected thereto with the ability to rotate. The self-damping rotary joint of the transport basket comprises a support joint configured to be attached to at least one of the carriages, wherein the support joint comprises at least three connecting rollers that define a circular envelope line. In preferred transport systems with transport baskets, the support joints are located on several of the carriages, and designs are also provided in which the support joint is connected to a group of two carriages to ensure increased load capacity. The self-damping rotary joint of the transport basket further comprises a mating joint configured to be secured to the rear support of the transport basket. The mating joint comprises a housing having a partially circular guide that has a first radius and extends in a circumferential direction of more than 180° and generally corresponds to or exceeds the circular envelope line, such that the rollers can be positioned within the partially circular guide. The partially circular guide has at least one inwardly directed projection. The connecting rollers engage with a partially circular guide so that the transport basket is adapted to rotate under the action of its own weight, so that the surface for supporting the products of the transport basket is held, in general, in a horizontal position during the movement of the transport basket along the trajectory, and at least one inwardly directed protrusion provides increased resistance to the relative movement of the housing and at least one of the rollers, which contacts at least one inwardly directed protrusion.

[0010] According to the embodiment, the connecting rollers comprise an outer surface made of an elastomeric material.

[0011] In a preferred arrangement, said at least three connecting rollers include four connecting rollers arranged so that their axes define the corners of a square.

[0012] According to an embodiment, at least one inwardly directed projection comprises a plurality of inwardly directed projections. Preferably, the inwardly directed projections are formed by the ends of arcuate segments having a second radius smaller than the first radius, which define a portion of a partially circular guide and are located, as a whole, at a distance from the first radius such that the inwardly directed projections extend radially inward from the circumference defined by the first radius. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the connecting rollers have a roller radius, and the second radius is greater than or equal to the roller radius.

[0013] According to the embodiment, at least six arc-shaped segments and more preferably eight arc-shaped segments are provided.

[0014] Preferably, the arcuate segments are located at the top of the housing. In other words, relative to the housing's position during use in the basket transport system.

[0015] Preferably, the lower part of the housing is open, which limits the length of the partially circular guide. Preferably, the partially circular guide extends approximately 270° in the circumferential direction, but may extend at a greater angle.

[0016] According to the arrangement for holding the housing on the connecting rollers, first and second projections extend radially inward along each side of the partially circular guide.

[0017] In a preferred embodiment, the circular envelope line has a radius that is smaller than the first radius of the partially circular guide. This allows the connecting rollers, which contact at least one protrusion, to pass the protrusion (due to the upward displacement of the housing), and allows the attached transport basket to rotate. The increased weight of the load on the transport basket increases the damping effect of the connecting roller(s) contacting and passing at least one of the inwardly directed protrusions. Alternatively or additionally, the surface of the rollers can be elastically flexed, which allows the roller to pass at least one of the inwardly directed protrusions.

[0018] According to one embodiment, the housing comprises a transport basket connector. This ensures that the mating connection is secured preferably to the rear support of the transport basket.

[0019] According to another aspect, a system for transporting transport baskets is proposed. The system comprises a plurality of carriages configured to move along a path, wherein at least one of the carriages, and preferably several carriages, comprises a self-damping rotary joint of the transport basket connected thereto. The self-damping rotary joint of the transport basket comprises a support joint attached to at least one of the carriages, and the support joint comprises at least three connecting rollers that define a circular envelope line. The transport basket comprises a rear support, and a surface extending from it for supporting products is also provided, and a mating joint is attached to the rear support. The mating connection comprises a housing having a partially circular guide, which has a first radius and extends in a circumferential direction greater than 180°, and, as a whole, corresponds to a circular envelope line or exceeds it. The partially circular guide comprises at least one inwardly directed projection. The connecting rollers engage with the partially circular guide such that the transport basket is capable of rotating under the action of its own weight, so that the surface for supporting the products is generally maintained in a horizontal position during the movement of the transport basket along the trajectory, and at least one inwardly directed projection provides increased resistance to the relative movement of the housing and at least one of the rollers, which contacts at least one inwardly directed projection.

[0020] The preferred arrangement involves a base plate connected to two carriages, and a support joint attached to the base plate. This provides increased load capacity. However, the support joint could also be attached to a single carriage or more than two carriages.

[0021] In a preferred arrangement, the support rollers are located on the support plate, with at least one of them configured to engage the rear support at a location spaced apart from the support connection. This provides additional support for the transport basket to transfer cantilever loads from the transport basket to the guide system that forms the trajectory.

[0022] In the preferred arrangement, the product support surface comprises multiple spaced bars. This allows for the use of specific loading and unloading zones along the path for loading and unloading the transport basket.

[0023] In the preferred embodiment, the carriages include support rollers that are movable along a guide that defines the trajectory. However, the presence of support rollers is optional, and sliding blocks or other types of guides with a low coefficient of friction may be used.

[0024] The various features mentioned above can be used individually or in various combinations to provide improved damping of the swinging motion of the transport basket as it moves along its path. This is particularly effective in the loading and unloading areas of basket-handling systems.

[0025] Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will become clear from the following description of embodiments with reference to the attached drawings.

[0043] Implementation of the invention

[0044] In the following description, certain terminology is used solely for convenience and not limitation. The words "right," "left," "upper," and "lower" designate directions in the drawings to which reference is made. The words "a" and "one" used in the claims and corresponding sections of the description are defined as including one or more of the mentioned features, unless expressly stated otherwise. This terminology includes the words specifically mentioned above, their derivatives, and words with similar meanings. The expression "at least one" followed by a list of two or more features, for example, "A, B, or C," means any individual feature A, B, or C, as well as any combination thereof. The terms "approximately" or "in general" mean a given value, unless otherwise stated, and a given angle or direction within + / - 25%.

[0045] Figure 1 shows an embodiment of a conveyor system 10 of the applicant of application US 2021 / 0094761, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. The specified system has a trajectory 12 defined by a guide 13, which has one or more curved sections 14, as well as rectilinear segments 15, in which a given movement of a plurality of carriages 20 is ensured. The engine drives the carriages 20 along the guide 13, due to either a direct connection of the carriages 20 with each other or the presence of intermediate sections located between the carriages 20. A transport basket 30 is connected with the possibility of rotation to at least some of the carriages 20, having support rods 32 that project in the form of a console from the side of the transport basket 30, which is attached with the possibility of rotation to the carriages 20. Along the trajectory 12, a loading zone 40 or an unloading zone 42 is preferably located. The loading and unloading zones 40, 42 have support bars 44, which are used to remove the transported item from the transport basket 30 using the support bars 32 of the transport basket 30, moving between the support bars 44 of the loading and unloading zones, or to grip or unload the item transported by the conveyor system 10. These support bars 44 can be driven, for example, by drive rollers, belts or chains, to further move the item along the transport or feed path. As described in US 2021 / 0094761, the conveyor system 10 allows for increased flexibility in the design of the arrangement to ensure compliance with specific applications and arrangement requirements.

[0046] Figures 2-16 show an embodiment of a system 50 of a device for transporting transport baskets for a transport basket 110 having a self-damping rotary joint 80 of the transport basket according to the invention. The system 50 of the device for transporting transport baskets comprises a conveyor 54 (shown in Figures 9 and 10), similar to the conveyor system 10 shown in Figure 1, which has a path 56 along which the transport baskets 110 are transported. The path 56 is defined by guides 57, similar to the above-described guide 13, which can have various shapes, containing curved sections, as well as rectilinear segments for moving products, for example, fast food dishes, placed in the transport basket 110, preferably between the loading and unloading zones 40 and 42 shown in Figure 1.

[0047] As shown in detail in Fig. 2, 3 and 6, the self-damping rotary joint 80 of the transport basket comprises a support joint 82, which is configured to be attached to at least one of the carriages 60. The support joint 82 comprises at least three connecting rollers 84, which define a circular envelope line C E . The mating connection 92 is designed to be attached to the rear support 112 of the transport basket, for example, as shown in Fig. 13-16. The mating connection 92 comprises a housing 94 having a partially circular guide 96, which is generally defined by a first radius R1 and covers an angle in the circumferential direction greater than 180°, preferably greater than 225° and more preferably approximately 270°. The partially circular guide 96 generally corresponds to a circular envelope line C E or more than the envelope line C E, defined by at least three connecting rollers 84. The partially circular guide 96 has at least one inwardly directed projection 98 and, more preferably, a group of inwardly directed projections 98.

[0048] As shown in Fig. 2 and 3, the connecting rollers 84 engage with the partially circular guide 96, so that the transport basket 110 rotates under the action of its own weight, so that its surface 114 for supporting products, shown in Fig. 13-16, during the movement of the transport basket 110 along the path 56, is maintained, in a generally horizontal position. At least one inwardly directed projection 98 and preferably a group of inwardly directed projections 98 provide increased resistance to the relative movement of the housing 94 and at least one of the rollers 84, which contacts at least one inwardly directed projection 98.

[0049] As shown in detail in Fig. 2 and 3, in the preferred embodiment, four connecting rollers 84 are provided, and two or possibly more inwardly directed projections 98 can come into contact with corresponding connecting rollers from among said connecting rollers 84 at a given moment depending on the position of the housing 94 relative to the connecting rollers 84.

[0050] As shown in Fig. 3, if four connecting rollers 84 are provided, they are preferably arranged so that their axes X1-X4 define the corners of a square.

[0051] In a particularly preferred embodiment, the inwardly directed projections 98 are formed by the ends of arcuate segments 100 that have a second radius R2 less than the first radius R1 and define a portion of a partially circular guide 96 and are located, in general, at a distance from the first radius R1, so that the inwardly directed projections 98 continue radially inward from the circle C T, determined by the first radius R1.

[0052] In a preferred embodiment, the connecting rollers 84 have a radius R R roller, and the second radius R2 is greater than or equal to the radius R R video.

[0053] In a preferred embodiment, to ensure the rotary movement of the housing 94 relative to the connecting rollers 84, the circle C T preferably has a larger diameter than the circle C E , to create a gap for the housing 94 with a partially circular guide 96 to move slightly upward when the connecting rollers 84 pass through one or more inwardly directed projections 98 before the housing 94 returns downward when one or more connecting rollers 84 move into the spaces between the projections 98 during the rotation of the transport basket 110. The center of the envelope line C E can also be offset from the center of the circle C T, which, in general, defines a partially circular guide 96.

[0054] In the preferred embodiment shown in Fig. 2 and 3, at least six arc-shaped segments 100 and more preferably eight arc-shaped segments 100 are provided, as shown in the figures. These arc-shaped segments 100 are located in the upper part of the housing 94, preferably above the center of the partially circular guide 96 opposite the open space in the section outside the partially circular guide 96. This open space can be used to facilitate the assembly of the housing 94 on the connecting rollers.

[0055] As shown in Fig. 2, 3 and 6, the housing 94 preferably comprises first and second projections 102, 104, which extend radially inward along each side of the partially circular guide 96 and hold the housing on the connecting rollers 84.

[0056] As stated above, the envelope line C Ehas a radius R3, which is preferably smaller than the first radius R1 of the partially circular guide 96.

[0057] A particular advantage of the said design is that the self-damping rotary joint 80 of the transport basket allows the transport basket 110 to be maintained in a horizontal position when transporting an unbalanced or uncentered load. The amount of unbalanced or uncentered load that can be accommodated before the rotation of the self-damping rotary joint 80 of the transport basket (and which is suitable for moving along vertical curves) depends on the weight of the load, as well as the geometry of the connecting rollers 84 and the partially circular guide 96 with the inwardly directed protrusion 98, which can be adjusted so that they are suitable for a specific application.

[0058] In an embodiment, the connecting rollers 84 may optionally have an outer surface 85 that is made of an elastomeric material. This would allow the connecting rollers to be compressed, at least to some extent, to ensure passage along one or more inwardly directed projections 98 when the angle of the transport basket 110 changes as a result of passing along the vertical curves of the trajectory 56, and the action of the force of gravity on the transport basket 110 overcomes the resistance force created due to the contact of at least one of the connecting rollers 84 with the corresponding projection(s) 98.However, this is not required, and the passage of the connecting rollers 84 along one or more of the inwardly directed projections 98 when the angle of the transport basket 110 changes as a result of passing along the vertical curves of the path 56 can be carried out simply by lifting upward the housing 94 and the attached transport basket 110, as described above.

[0059] As shown in detail in Fig. 2 and 6, the housing 94 preferably comprises a connector 106 of the transport basket. It can be defined by two guides 106a, 106b with grooves, with which the corresponding segment on the rear support 112 of the transport basket 110 engages.

[0060] Fig. 7-16 shows a system 50 of a device for transporting transport baskets, which comprises a plurality of trolleys 60 configured to move along a path 56, wherein at least one of the trolleys 60 has a self-damping rotary joint 80 of the transport basket connected to it, as described above.

[0061] In the system 50 of the device for transporting transport baskets, in a preferred embodiment, the support plate 70 is connected to two carriages 60, and the support connection 82 is connected to the support plate 70. In this preferred embodiment, support rollers 72 are arranged on the support plate 70, and at least one of the support rollers 72 is configured to contact the rear support 112 of the transport basket 110 at a location that is located at a distance from the support connection 82. With this design, the transport basket 110 can transport heavier loads. In addition, the self-damping rotary connection 80 of the transport basket prevents excessive swinging of the transport basket 110 when it is loaded, thanks to the shape of the connecting rollers 84 contacting at least one of the inwardly directed projections 98.This is particularly effective for damping rocking movements when the transport basket 110, which preferably has a product support surface 114 comprising a plurality of spaced apart bars 116, moves toward the loading or unloading zone 40 or 42, as described above, in order to prevent collision of the bars 116 of the transport baskets and the support bars 44 located in the loading and / or unloading zones 40, 42.

[0062] In another preferred embodiment, the carriage 60 comprises support rollers 68 that are movable along the guide 57 that defines the trajectory 56. Although the use of support rollers 68 is preferable from the point of view of the movement of the carriages 60 with a low coefficient of friction, sliding blocks with a low coefficient of friction can also be used.

[0063] It should be noted that the above information serves only as an explanation and is not intended to be limiting.
