Abstract
Description
[0001] Field of technology to which the invention relates
[0002] The present invention relates to a device used in dentofacial orthopedics, which is a branch of orthodontics. Specifically, the present invention relates to bone ossification, or bone tissue modeling, which helps improve the effectiveness of orthodontic treatment.
[0003] Technology Level
[0004] Previously used maxillary expanders were specialized devices for treating dental and maxillary anomalies in patients with mandibular prognathism and maxillary retrognathism. The device was used to advance the maxilla and teeth forward to properly align the upper teeth with the lower anterior teeth and improve the bite angle. A modern device for treating maxillary anomalies is called a protraction head appliance or protraction face mask.
[0005] Figures 1 and 2 illustrate well-known appliances: Dr. Dilar's protraction head appliance and Dr. Petit's protraction face mask, respectively. These appliances perform a similar function, providing forward movement of bones and teeth. Each appliance comprises two components: an intraoral acrylic plate, which is fixed to all upper teeth and contains two hooks secured to the teeth designated by reference numeral 16 and reference numeral 26, respectively; and an extraoral device with support pads that create pressure on the chin and forehead, which are connected by a curved metal arch to a horizontal metal bar or a rigid plastic element for structural reinforcement.
[0006] Previous devices were bulky and inconvenient to use. Inserting and removing them required several steps, and they could easily shift during sleep. Furthermore, these devices were unsightly and quite noticeable, creating discomfort for the user in public places and during conversations. Consequently, these shortcomings could hinder the patient's daily activities and potentially prolong the treatment process.
[0007] Disclosure of the essence of the invention
[0008] The object of the present invention is to provide an intraoral orthodontic appliance for improving the expansion of the upper jaw, which is a more compact, lightweight, easy-to-use and less noticeable appliance, which will be more effective and will reduce the duration of treatment without causing discomfort in the oral cavity.
[0009] The orthodontic appliance for protracting the upper anterior teeth to achieve facial balance consists of two main devices attached to the patient's teeth. The first device (1) comprises an upper plate (5) positioned behind the six upper anterior teeth and securely fixed with orthodontic adhesive. A first hook (3) and a second hook (4), made of springy, rigid stainless steel wire, are attached to the ends of the upper plate (5).
[0010] The second appliance (2) comprises a right plate (6) and a left plate (7) which cover the remaining back teeth and part of the palate; a first wire (8) which is a springy rigid stainless steel wire attached to the right plate (6) and the left plate (7), and a second wire (9) which is a springy rigid stainless steel wire curved along the front teeth. In the area of the central front teeth, a third hook (10) and a fourth hook (11) are formed. On the second wire (9) in the area of the premolars, a left U-shaped loop (12) and a right U-shaped loop (13) are formed, wherein the ends of the wire are attached to the right plate (6) and the left plate (7).

[0018] in Fig. 7 – various configurations of the first wire (8) of the second apparatus (2).
[0019] Implementation of the invention
[0020] An orthodontic appliance for protracting the upper anterior teeth to achieve facial balance according to the present invention comprises two main appliances: a first appliance (1) and a second appliance (2). The first appliance (1) comprises an upper plate (5) located behind the six upper anterior teeth and securely fixed with an orthodontic adhesive, and a first hook (3) and a second hook (4) are attached to the upper plate (5).
[0021] The first hook (3) and the second hook (4) have a diameter of 0.5 to 1.2 mm and a height of 10 to 17 mm. Each hook is attached to the top plate.
[0022] The second appliance (2) contains a right plate (6) and a left plate (7), located on either side of the palate and covering all the back teeth. On the lingual side, the right plate (6) and left plate (7) are aligned with the palate, each at a distance of 10 to 15 mm from the center of the palate. The first wire (8) is attached to the right plate (6) and left plate (7), which is a springy, rigid stainless steel wire with a diameter of 0.6 to 1.3 mm.
[0023] The second wire (9), which is a springy, rigid stainless steel wire with a diameter of 0.6 to 1.3 mm, is bent along the upper anterior teeth. Hooks are formed on the anterior section of the wire: the third hook (10) and the fourth hook (11). On the second wire (9), bent along the premolars, a left U-shaped loop (12) and a right U-shaped loop (13) are formed, with a width and height of 3 to 10 mm, while the ends of the wire are attached to the right plate (6) and the left plate (7).
[0024] The third hook (10) and the fourth hook (11) are preferably 4 to 12 mm in height. The ends of the hooks face each other. The hooks are spaced 10 to 17 mm apart.
[0025] Top plate(5), right plate(6) and left plate(7) can be selected from acrylic plate or transparent plastic plate.
[0026] The use of the orthodontic appliance for protracting the upper anterior teeth to achieve facial balance according to the present invention begins with installing the first appliance (1) on the upper anterior teeth using an orthodontic adhesive. Then, the second appliance (2) is installed by placing the second wire (9) at the upper anterior teeth before installing the right plate (6) and the left plate (7), depending on which option is more convenient. Elastics of 1 / 8 inches in size creating a force of 3.5 ounces or elastics of 3 / 8 inches in size creating a force of 3.5 ounces are used to tighten the first hook (3) to the fourth hook (11) and tighten the second hook (4) to the third hook (10) for a period of 8 to 20 hours. When the tension is weakened, the elastics are replaced.
[0027] The best embodiment of the invention is presented in the section “Embodiment of the invention”.
