Description
[0001] INTRODUCTION
[0002] The device for deploying a buoy from a self-propelled, remotely controlled vessel is designed for deploying buoys in shallow waters where the use of displacement vessels is difficult or impossible. Currently, a large variety of buoys exist for various purposes (navigational, protective, indicator, etc.). Structurally, such a buoy is a sealed float, secured to the bottom with an anchor on a cable or anchor chain. Typically, these buoys do not contain any electronic equipment, with the exception of simple devices such as signal beacons. From a technical standpoint, the installation of such buoys is straightforward and can be carried out from vessels using a ship crane, or in shallow waters, from boats by personnel.Moreover, given the simple design of the buoy, primitive installation methods do not create the risk of damage from accidental impacts on the deck or side of the vessel due to the absence of complex electronic devices in its composition.
[0003] Much more difficulties arise when deploying buoys that serve as platforms for measuring equipment, such as environmental monitoring buoys, weather buoys, hydrological buoys, etc. Such buoys cannot be subjected to any impacts or large or uneven forces that may occur during their deployment.
[0004] As a rule, buoys for environmental monitoring are made of plastic and welded aluminum parts [1]. The buoys are equipped with a large amount of measuring equipment, with sensitive sensor elements at the bottom. They also contain communication equipment, data storage and processing equipment, a transponder, solar panels, batteries, several antennas, and a signal beacon. Such devices are designed for environmental monitoring or scientific research and allow for the tracking of a number of chemical, physical, and hydrological parameters of the aquatic environment in real time. For example, the platform for environmental monitoring of the aquatic environment [2] has dimensions of 995 × 771 mm and weighs approximately 80 ÷ 90 kg, depending on the configuration. It is equipped with measuring equipment, the sensitive parts of which protrude from the housing at the bottom, solar panels, antennas, and a flashing beacon.Clearly, environmental buoys and platform buoys are difficult to move manually, and handling them requires a particularly careful approach, avoiding impacts and applying large and uneven forces. Therefore, when deploying environmental buoys, reliability is an important consideration, ensuring that potential damage is prevented, including by eliminating the impact of human error.
[0005] Almost all buoys are equipped with an anchor chain and an anchor, which ensure positioning in the water area while maintaining precise geographic coordinates. When determining the length of the buoy's anchor chain, an important circumstance is taken into account: its insufficient length causes the vertical component of tension, which can lead to chain breakage or anchor detonation, while excess chain increases the buoy's turning radius relative to the anchor. For buoy setting depths of up to 20 meters, a coefficient of 2.5 is applied, the chain length is up to 50 meters. At greater depths, the coefficient is 2.0. In shallow waters and narrow channels, the chain length can be reduced to a value equal to one and a half times the depth, but in this case, the chain gauge must be increased by one size to reduce jerking in rough waters [3]. The presence of an anchor and a long anchor chain significantly complicates the setting process.
[0006] FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY
[0007] Recently, monitoring of the aquatic environment in Russian rivers using environmental buoys has developed particularly rapidly. Demand for specialized types of buoys has increased. In recent years, the share of requests for multifunctional floating buoys has increased by 15-20%. The number of buoys of various types produced is in the thousands, and further, as aquatic environment monitoring programs expand, particularly in the river network, the number of environmental buoys will increase [4]. Therefore, there is a need to use floating vessels equipped with specialized equipment to ensure the reliable deployment of environmental buoy platforms. It is important that the deployment operation be automated, eliminating dependence on the qualifications and physical fitness of personnel and weather conditions (waves, wind).Obviously, this result is difficult to achieve in conditions where the equipment lowered into the water by a ship's crane is subject to, for example, impacts against the side and deck of the vessel.
[0008] Currently, remotely operated watercraft based on catamarans are widely used for transporting scientific and specialized equipment across rivers and lakes [5], [6]. They feature a convenient design for equipment placement, a compact propulsion system, and communications and control equipment housed in sealed compartments on the deck. The catamaran platforms are controlled remotely from a control panel using a video image transmitted to the control panel display.
[0009] The design of an ecological platform-buoy is presented, for example, in [2]. The buoy consists of a hull, an anchor chain, and an anchor. Therefore, the deployment of the buoy must be considered as the combined movement of all elements into the aquatic environment. Some known technical solutions, such as [6], do not consider all aspects of the deployment process, such as the movement of the anchor and anchor chain.
[0010] The primary technical objective of this invention is to simplify the design of the device and increase the reliability of deployment operations, including those of environmental buoys. This objective is achieved by installing a specialized equipment system on a remotely controlled vessel, such as a catamaran, that ensures the smooth, automated movement of the buoy assembly into the water at a specified point in the water. Reliability is achieved by automating all operations, eliminating the need for vessels with launching and recovery mechanisms (such as a ship's crane or a winch with a drum) and manual labor.
[0011] STATE OF THE ART
[0012] Buoys are typically deployed from vessels using launching and lifting devices and manual labor. Upon arrival at the designated location, the buoy is prepared for deployment. It is released from its moorings on the vessel, the anchor chain is attached to the lower anchor eye using a shackle, and the other end of the chain is connected to the anchor. The buoy is lowered into the water using the ship's crane, with the anchor placed on the edge of a wide board that extends slightly over the side. The vessel approaches the buoy deployment site from the leeward side at the slowest speed. Before dropping the anchor, the engine is stopped, and the vessel moves toward the buoy by inertia. When the anchor, lying on the board (drop platform), is above the deployment site, the edge of the board is raised using a lifting device, and the anchor is lowered into the water overboard. Personnel on the boat remove the hooks of the ship's crane cable from the buoy's eyebolts [7].If the vessel lacks anchoring equipment, the buoy is towed through the water, and the anchor and chain are carried on deck. At the anchoring point, the anchor is carried to the side of the vessel and secured to a strong hemp end. The anchor chain, previously laid on the deck in proper lengths, is paid out, after which the end holding the anchor is released, and the anchor is dropped into the water using a handy tool, such as a crowbar.
[0013] However, this deployment method is not suitable for environmental buoys equipped with measuring equipment and solar panels, as they are highly susceptible to damage from impacts with the side and deck, especially in windy conditions. This deployment method is low-tech, requires a specialized vessel with launching and recovery equipment, requires a large number of personnel, and requires the constant presence of a boat with a crew on the surface of the water to ensure the crane hook is released from the buoy. Moreover, even slight rough water complicates the task. It should also be noted that environmental buoys often require deployment in shallow waters or on non-navigable rivers, where the passage of specialized vessels is difficult, making the conventional deployment method inappropriate.
[0014] The "Watercraft for Monitoring Natural and Artificial Reservoirs" is designed to tow a measuring instrumentation unit and transmit monitoring data remotely. [5] It has a catamaran configuration and comprises two rigid hulls and a rigid platform connecting the hulls and forming a deck. The unit also includes a power supply system, a control unit, a steering column containing a submersible electric motor with a propeller, cantilevered at the stern under the platform, and a geared motor located on the deck. The watercraft can be remotely controlled by an operator from shore, within line of sight, via a wireless control module.
[0015] This technical solution has a convenient form factor for equipment placement, but it is an example of using a floating vessel for one specific task—transporting measuring equipment. The floating vessel does not perform other tasks, including the deployment and retrieval of buoys.
[0016] It is known as "Mobile, modular, collapsible, self-propelled watercraft" [6], equipped with propellers and remote control.
[0017] The patent description provides an operating algorithm for a known device: upon arrival at the work site, a floating craft, using a conveyor and an onboard robotic crane-manipulator, performs the specified work of placing the required number of markers or buoys. Upon completion of the mission, the floating craft, using the robotic crane-manipulator, ensures the selection and return of navigational markers and buoys to the conveyor. Figure 1, given in the description of patent RU 2850556 C1, shows a diagram of the floating craft, which depicts, among other things, buoys without anchors and anchor chains, and a small crane. The ability to perform placement is declared, however, there is no equipment capable of developing significant forces. Obviously, using the specified equipment, it is impossible to perform the tasks associated with the placement of buoys, described in [1], [2]. The process of setting an anchor chain and an anchor is not considered.The anchor chain can be quite long; the weight of an environmental buoy is 80–90 kg, and the anchor is 90 kg. Therefore, deploying and retrieving environmental buoys requires a vessel, such as a catamaran, with specialized equipment capable of deploying not only the buoy but also the anchor chain and anchor, which consists of a set of concrete blocks.
[0018] The solution “Launching and lifting device for an unmanned boat for an unmanned underwater vehicle” is known [9], in the aspect of the proposed invention, this technical solution is considered as a prototype.
[0019] In the known device, in the stern part of the boat hull in its centerline plane, perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, a niche is made, in which a movable platform is placed on a hinge rigidly installed on the deck of the boat perpendicular to its centerline plane, with the ability to swing it in the centerline plane of the boat. With its upper part up to touching the deck of the boat, and its lower part up to an inclined fixed position (working) in the niche so that its end is located below the waterline of the boat behind its stern cut, and on each longitudinal wall of the niche a lock is installed for holding the movable platform in such an inclined position, on the deck of the boat in its centerline plane, between the niche and the pulley, a lock is installed for holding the position of the swinging platform in a horizontal (travel) position on the deck, on the movable platform, on its outer side, along its entire length, a lead screw with a drive from an electric motor is installed,which is mounted on the upper end of the movable platform, and the movable carriage is located directly on the lead screw with the ability to move forward along its entire length, while a replaceable catcher for an unmanned underwater vehicle is rigidly mounted on the movable carriage, coaxially with the longitudinal axis of the boat, and a bracket with two guide pulleys for routing the cable-rope is mounted on the upper end of the movable platform, on its outer side. The technical result of the known solution is the creation of a launching and recovery device (LRU) with superior performance due to the implementation of the principle of versatility, since it can ensure the launching and recovery of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) of several different types.
[0020] However, the existing technical solution has several drawbacks. The SPU is located on a boat, and its ability to navigate shallow waters is not considered. The SPU is large, has a drum, and a powerful electric drive. Its complex design is primarily intended for retrieving equipment from the vessel. The UUV has a compact design, but lacks an anchor or an extended anchor chain. Therefore, using the existing technical solution, it is impossible to deploy a platform-buoy with all its components.
[0021] SOLVED PROBLEMS
[0022] The main technical problems solved by the present invention:
[0023] - simplification of the design by eliminating complex lifting equipment (a winch with a powerful electric drive and a drum);
[0024] - ensuring the installation of an anchor chain and anchor together with a buoy;
[0025] - increasing the reliability of buoy installation by eliminating damage to the buoy due to impacts, application of large and uneven forces, including taking into account the impact of the "human factor".
[0026] These tasks are accomplished by installing a special platform with rollers on a self-propelled, remotely controlled vessel, along with a lifting device in the form of an air-cushion jack, which ensures the smooth, automated movement of the buoy elements into the water at a designated point. This automated mode utilizes wireless control of the device. This eliminates the need for vessels equipped with complex and cumbersome equipment (cranes, winches) and manual labor.
[0027] DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
[0028] The proposed technical solution formulates the main distinguishing features of a device for setting a buoy from a self-propelled remotely controlled catamaran.
[0029] A device for deploying a buoy from a self-propelled, remotely controlled catamaran comprises a base mounted on a support frame between the floats on the bow of the vessel. Mounted on the base, perpendicular to the centerline of the vessel, are holders with a shaft and a movable rectangular platform secured to the shaft. The platform can be swung in the centerline of the vessel, with its inner side toward the base and its outer side toward the water.
[0030] At the same time, an inflatable jack-air cushion with a release valve is placed between the inner part of the platform and the base; on the sides of the jack there are extension springs, fixed on one side to the base, on the other to the inner part of the platform.
[0031] A splash-proof box is attached to the side of the platform on the base, containing a power source, a control device capable of receiving commands wirelessly, and a pneumatic pump.
[0032] The platform's upper surface is supported by rollers. A limiting end plate is installed on the inner side of the platform. The outer side of the platform is open. The side plates, mounted longitudinally on the long sides of the platform, are coated with an antifriction material.
[0033] Before deployment, the buoy is positioned on the platform rollers on the inner side, the anchor on the outer side, with the anchor chain placed on the upper surface of the anchor. A limit switch is placed between the outer part of the platform and the base.
[0034] Feature: "An inflatable jack-air cushion with a release valve is located between the inner platform and the base. Extension springs are attached to the sides of the jack, secured to the base on one side and the inner platform on the other." This significantly simplifies the design and creates significant force on the platform when the inflatable jack is inflated (to overcome the weight of the buoy and the tension of the springs). As a result, the platform tilts toward the water, allowing the anchor chain, anchor, and buoy to slide into the water. The release valve allows air to be released after the installation is complete, and the extension springs return the platform to its original position and facilitate the release of air from the jack-air cushion.
[0035] Feature: "A splash-proof box is attached to the side of the platform on the base, containing a power source, a control device capable of receiving commands wirelessly, and a pneumatic pump" - allows the necessary equipment to be placed near the platform and ensure its operation in automated mode.
[0036] Feature: "Supports with rollers are located on the upper surface of the platform. A limiting end plate is installed on the inner side of the platform. The outer side of the platform is open. Side plates, installed longitudinally on the long sides of the platform, are coated with an anti-friction material." This ensures the reliable sliding of the buoy and anchor along the platform into the water. The device prevents premature movement of the buoy from the inner part of the platform and eliminates friction when parts of the buoy touch the side plates.
[0037] Feature: "before installation, the buoy is placed on the rollers of the platform from the inside, the anchor - from the outside, while the anchor chain is placed on the upper surface of the anchor" - allows for convenient transportation of the buoy and ensures that the buoy slides into the water in the correct sequence.
[0038] Feature: "an end sensor is placed between the outer part of the platform and the base" - allows you to receive an objective signal about the platform being brought into the working position, after which the control system counts down the specified time interval and activates the drain valve.
[0039] The implementation of the invention increases the reliability of the buoy installation process by eliminating impacts, applying large and uneven forces, and preventing possible damage, including taking into account the impact of the "human factor".
[0040] By installing a dedicated deployment device on a self-propelled, remotely controlled vessel, the design is significantly simplified. This ensures smooth movement of the buoy elements into the water at a designated point in the water, in an automated manner, eliminating impacts, excessive mechanical force, and operator error. The automated mode utilizes wireless control, eliminating the need for manual operator labor or vessel crane equipment.
[0041] Thus, the device for deploying buoys from a self-propelled remotely controlled vessel gains new features. The design is simplified, the reliability of the buoy deployment process is increased by eliminating impacts and excessive mechanical forces, eliminating the need for large vessels and boats equipped with cranes and launching equipment with powerful electric drives, and eliminating manual labor.
[0042] Therefore, design changes to the buoy deployment device do not clearly follow from prior art for a specialist and are not based on changes, for example, in the quantitative characteristics of the equipment or components. The proposed technical solution introduces new features: it significantly simplifies the design, reduces energy consumption, and ensures smooth movement of the buoy elements into the aquatic environment at a specified point in the water, in an automated mode that eliminates impacts, excessive mechanical force, and operator error. The automated mode involves wireless control of the device, eliminating the need for manual labor by operators or vessels with crane equipment.
[0043] Considering the above, it can be concluded that the claimed technical solution meets the criterion of "inventive step." The proposed technical solution has distinctive features from the prior art, a new design of its elements, and new connections between elements, and therefore meets the criterion of "novelty."
[0044] The proposed technical solution can be widely used in the installation of buoys, especially those designed to solve the problems of environmental monitoring of the aquatic environment of rivers and lakes, therefore the proposed technical solution meets the criterion of "industrial applicability".

[0077] IMPLEMENTATION OF THE INVENTION
[0078] Device for setting a buoy from a self-propelled remotely controlled vessel, Figures: 1-5, contains:
[0079] - base (3), placed on the support frame (2) between the floats (1) in the bow of the watercraft;
[0080] - holders (13) with a shaft (14), placed on the base, perpendicular to the centerline of the watercraft;
[0081] - a movable rectangular platform (15) secured to a shaft (14), with the ability to swing it in the diametrical plane of the floating craft, with the inner part towards the base and the outer part towards the water, wherein the outer side of the support is open and the inner side is closed by an end plate (22);
[0082] - inflatable jack (16) with release valve;
[0083] - extension springs (17), installed on the sides of the jack (16) and secured on one side to the base (3), and on the other - to the inner part of the platform (15);
[0084] - splash-proof box (9) with independent power source (23), control device (24) capable of receiving commands via wireless communication, and pneumatic pump (25):
[0085] - supports with rollers (19), located on the upper surface of the platform (15);
[0086] - platform side plates (15) with anti-friction linings (20);
[0087] - limit sensor (21).
[0088] Installation and preparation of the device for setting the buoy includes the following operations.
[0089] The buoy (10) is placed on the platform (15) when it is in the "traveled" (horizontal) position, shown in Figure 2. The platform (15) is held in the "traveled" position by extension springs (17). The end plate (22) rests against the buoy (10) body, preventing it from moving towards the deck (4). Supports with rollers (19) are placed on the outer surface of the platform (15). An anchor (12) is placed on the platform on the water side, with an anchor chain (11) laid on top of the anchor (12). The platform (15) is mounted on the base (3) in a workshop and is fastened to the shaft (14). The shaft holders (13) are welded to the base (3). The base (3) is fastened to the power frame (2), for example, by welding. The power frame (2) is mounted and secured to the floats (1) of the watercraft. The platform (15) can oscillate around the axis of the shaft (14). When the inner portion of the platform (15) is tilted toward the base (3), and the shock absorbers (18) touch the base (3), the device is in the "stowed" position.When the outer part of the platform (15) is tilted toward the water, the device goes into the "working" position. A splash-proof box (9) is placed next to the platform, in which, as shown in Figure 5, the equipment is located: an autonomous power source (23), a control device (24), a pneumatic pump (25). The control device (24) is capable of receiving commands via wireless communication. The connection of the pressure line of the pneumatic pump (25) to the inflatable jack (16) is not shown in the drawing, since it is obvious and does not affect the description of the principle and sequence of operation of the device. A sealed box (5) with a battery and a propeller control device (6) is fixed on the deck (4); the control device is capable of receiving commands via wireless communication. The procedure for controlling the floating craft via wireless communication, the composition and name of the equipment used are described in [5] and [6], therefore they are not considered here.A radio mast (7) is located in the center of the vessel, on the deck (4). A 360-degree video camera (8) is mounted on its upper portion, transmitting a live video image to the control panel display. The vessel is controlled in a known manner [6] via the control panel, using the video camera's (8) image, which is transmitted to the control panel display.
[0090] The buoy deployment device operates as follows: The buoy (10) with the anchor (12) and anchor chain (11) is delivered to the desired point when the platform (15) is in the "stowed" position. After the vessel arrives at its destination, the propeller (6) stops, and control is performed wirelessly using the image on the control panel display. The pneumatic pump (25) is turned on. The inflatable jack (16) is triggered by filling with air and providing significant force. Currently, air cushion jacks are widely used in industry, construction, transport and other sectors
[10] . They are capable of creating a force of several tons, have dimensions of approximately 50 mm in the initial state and a lifting height of 400-800 mm, while they are made of waterproof materials and are inflated by pneumatic pumps powered by a 12 V electric source.As the jack's air cushion inflates, platform (15) moves to its "working" position. Under the force of gravity, anchor (12) moves along roller supports (19) into the water, unwinding the anchor chain (11). The length of the anchor chain (11) is 1.5 times the anchor's installation depth [3], and the anchor itself is installed at locations with precise geographic coordinates and a known installation depth, eliminating the possibility of the chain jerking against the buoy.
[0091] The platform (15), having reached the extreme inclined position, triggers the limit switch (21), which transmits a signal to the control device (24). The control device (24) counts down the operation time and initiates the release of air from the air jack-air cushion (16), for example, by actuating the electromagnetic release valve on the air pump (25). The buoy (10) smoothly moves into the water along the roller supports (19), after which the installation is complete. Under the action of the extension springs (17), the platform (15) returns to the "stowed" position, simultaneously facilitating the release of air from the air jack-air cushion. The watercraft moves to the starting point for loading and towing the next buoy.
[0092] Thus, the introduction of new features makes it possible to achieve the stated effect and create a device for setting a buoy for a self-propelled remotely controlled floating craft with a simpler design, without the use of bulky winches with drums, capable of increasing the reliability of setting buoys by eliminating impacts, applying large and uneven forces, and preventing possible damage, including that arising from errors by maintenance personnel.
