Abstract

A two-layer geosynthetic clay barrier with a separate sorption layer manufactured by the two-layer dosing method contains a lower sealing layer formed by sodium bentonite on the lower geotextile and an upper sorption layer formed by activated zeolite or in a mixture with activated carbon or biochar directly on the lower sealing layer, with both mineral layers covered by the upper geotextile and all layers connected by needling. The method of manufacturing a two-layer geosynthetic clay barrier with independent two-layer dosing of mineral layers includes dosing a first layer of sodium bentonite onto a lower geotextile in a first dosing zone and dosing a second layer of activated zeolite or in a mixture with activated carbon or biochar directly onto the first layer of sodium bentonite in a second dosing zone, followed by covering with a top geotextile and connecting all layers by needling, each dosing zone having independent mass flow control and sequential dosing control to ensure functional separation of the layers.
