Claims
OCR09WP17 / 06 / 25691. The process for producing biodegradable straws from soy protein isolate involves the following steps: Step a. Mix soy protein isolate powder and tapioca starch in a ratio of 1:1.5 by weight for 5 minutes at 750 rpm at 25°C using a temperature-controlled mixer. Step b. Then, add 36.58% by volume of water to the mixture from Step a and mix for 10 minutes at 750 rpm at 25°C using the same temperature-controlled mixer as in Step a. Step c. Add 14.64% by weight of glycerol to the mixture from Step b and continue mixing for 20 minutes at 325 rpm at 80°C using the same temperature-controlled mixer as in Step b. Step d. Transfer the homogeneous mixture from Step c to a pasta making machine for extrusion into straws. Step e. Finally, dry the straws at 80°C and 30% relative humidity for 20 hours.
