Description

Dentifrice composition

[0001] The present invention relates to dentifrice compositions.

[0002] Chemical and physical removal methods are known for removing stains, which are discolored stains on teeth. Water-soluble polyphosphates are known as components used in chemical removal methods. Patent Document 1 describes an oral composition containing a water-soluble polyphosphate and a carboxylic acid isopropyl ester, while Patent Document 2 describes a whitening toothpaste composition containing a water-soluble polyphosphate, an alkyl sulfate, and polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil in a specific ratio. However, in neither case is the water-soluble polyphosphate alone sufficient to achieve the desired effect. While physical removal methods using abrasives involve increasing the abrasive power of the abrasive, this approach is limited by concerns about damaging the tooth surface. Patent Document 3 also discloses that bentonite of a specific composition containing specific amounts of calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium mined in a specific location has tooth cleaning properties, but bentonite generally has low stain removal effectiveness.

[0058] [Evaluation Method] The resulting dentifrice compositions were evaluated as follows.

[0059] [Method for Evaluating Stain Removal] Hydroxyapatite plate 1 (HOYA Corporation, diameter 7.0 mm x 3.5 mm; hereinafter, hydroxyapatite plate will be abbreviated as HAP plate) whose surface had been previously polished by sandblasting was immersed in a 40°C thermostatic bath for 30 minutes each in a 0.5% aqueous albumin solution, a tannin solution (50 g of Japanese tea (brand: Oimatsu) and five black tea tea bags (manufactured by Lipton, Brisk tea bags) extracted with hot water, cooled, and then mixed with 12 g of powdered coffee (manufactured by Nescafé) and adjusted to 1,200 mL with purified water), and a 0.56% aqueous ammonium iron(III) citrate solution. This procedure was repeated 8 to 9 times a day until the stains were sufficiently adhered to the HAP plate (120 cycles), yielding a stained HAP plate 2.

[0060] Next, HAP plate 2 was immersed in a dentifrice solution diluted 3 times with artificial saliva (50 mM KCl, 1 mM CaCl, 0.1 mM MgCl, 1 mM KHPO, pH 7.0) at 37°C for 2.5 minutes, and then brushed in the test solution using a flat grinder (brush used: Lion Corporation's Systema toothbrush with a 4-row head). Brushing was performed 200 times. After brushing, the plate was rinsed with water to obtain cleaned HAP plate 3.

[0061] The stain removal effect was evaluated using the L of HAP boards 1, 2, and 3.* The values were measured, and * 1. L * 2. L * The stain removal rate was calculated using the following formula and evaluated according to the following criteria.

[0062] L * The value was measured using a spectrophotometer (Nippon Denshoku Co., Ltd., SE-2000). Calculation formula: Stain removal rate (%) = {(L * 2-L * 1)-(L * 3-L * 1) / (L * 2-L * 1)

[0063] - Evaluation criteria for stain removal effect - ++: Stain removal rate is 50% or more +: Stain removal rate is 45% or more but less than 50% ±: Stain removal rate is 30% or more but less than 45% -: Stain removal rate is less than 30%

[0064] [Method for evaluating the feel of use (absence of irritation to the oral mucosa, absence of bitterness or unpleasant taste)] Ten monitors applied the dentifrice composition to a toothbrush and cleaned the oral cavity, and evaluated the irritation to the oral mucosa and the taste according to the following rating scale. The average of the scores of the ten monitors was calculated and evaluated according to the following rating scale.

[0065] - Rating criteria for non-irritation to oral mucosa - 4 points: No irritation felt in the oral cavity. 3 points: Almost no irritation felt in the oral cavity. 2 points: Irritation felt in the oral cavity. 1 point: Extremely irritating felt in the oral cavity.

[0066] - Evaluation criteria for lack of irritation to oral mucosa - ++: Average score of 3.0 points or more and 4.0 points or less +: Average score of 2.5 points or more and less than 3.0 points ±: Average score of 1.5 points or more and less than 2.5 points -: Average score less than 1.5 points

[0067] - Rating criteria for the absence of bitterness and unpleasant taste - 4 points: No strange taste felt in the mouth. 3 points: A slight strange taste felt in the mouth. 2 points: A strange taste felt in the mouth. 1 point: A very strange taste felt in the mouth.

[0068] - Evaluation criteria for bitterness / absence of unpleasant taste - ++: Average score of 3.5 to 4.0 points +: Average score of 3.0 to less than 3.5 points ±: Average score of 2.0 to less than 3.0 points -: Average score less than 2.0 points

[0069] [Method for evaluating foaming] Approximately 1 g of the dentifrice composition was placed on the bristles of a regular toothbrush, and the foaming after brushing for 3 minutes was evaluated on the following 4-point scale.

[0070] - Rating criteria - 4 points: Good foaming 3 points: Foaming 2 points: Poor foaming 1 point: No foaming at all

[0071] The evaluation scores of the 10 panelists were averaged and the foaming was evaluated on the following four-point scale: ++ and + were judged to be dentifrice compositions with good foaming properties.

[0072] -Evaluation criteria- ++: 3.5 points or more and 4.0 points or less +: 3.0 points or more and less than 3.5 points ±: 2.0 points or more and less than 3.0 points -: Less than 2.0 points

[0076] Compared with Comparative Example 1, which contained sodium pyrophosphate but no bentonite, and Comparative Example 2, which contained bentonite but no sodium pyrophosphate, Examples 1 to 24, which contained both bentonite and sodium pyrophosphate, exhibited a high stain removal effect (Tables 1 to 3). These results demonstrate that the present invention can provide a dentifrice composition with a good stain removal effect, and can also provide a dentifrice composition that can achieve both a stain removal effect and a good usability.
