Claims

1. A vehicle control unit which performs one or more driver assistance functions based on detection signals received from more than one type of sensor that recognizes object targets around the vehicle; in which the vehicle control unit comprises a sensing unit (63) which references a pattern that defines more than one pattern indicating the combination of sensors used to recognize object targets corresponding to each driver assistance function and recognizes object targets based on the detection results obtained by each sensor included in each pattern; a vehicle control unit (64) which performs the driver assistance functions corresponding to the patterns obtained by the recognition results obtained by the sensing unit (63); and a decision control unit (63a) which controls at least one of the sensing unit (63) or the vehicle control unit (64) based on the vehicle's surrounding environment, in which the decision control unit (63a) performs actions to change whether the detection results of the sensors in the sensing unit (63) are used, changes the combination of sensors,or changes in the operating characteristics of the driver assistance function in the vehicle control unit (64) at least 2.
