Abstract
Claims
OCR07AP1. A minimally invasive human mandible surgical instrument comprising: a main unit consisting of a contoured surface conforming to the surface of the mandible, at least one positioning or pilot drilling channel, at least one bone cutting guide unit, and at least one designated site for fixing the surgical instrument to anatomical landmarks on the mandible; an auxiliary unit consisting of a contoured surface conforming to the surface of the mandible, at least one positioning or pilot drilling channel, and at least one designated site for fixing the surgical instrument to anatomical landmarks on the mandible; and a bridge connecting the main and auxiliary units. The mandible surgical instrument has the following unique characteristics: at least three designated sites for fixing the surgical instrument to the mandible, located on both the main and auxiliary units combined.
1. A maxillary surgical device under claim 1 in which the positioning or pilot drilling slots include at least one positioning slot that serves to position the bone fixation of the device to the maxilla and at least one slot that serves as a pre-drilling slot.
3. A maxillary surgical device under claim 2 in which there are at least three such positioning slots which are designed to be used in conjunction with a separate maxillary surgical device to aid in precise positioning during device attachment to the maxilla.
4. A maxillary surgical device under claim 1 in which the specific placement for fixing the surgical device consists of at least three flanges (tri-flange). 5.
6. An upper jaw surgical device under one of the claims in clauses 1 through 5 in which at least one specific location is provided for attachment to the anterior nasal bone to restrict movement of the upper jaw surgical device in the superior-inferior direction or the medial-lateral direction.
7. An upper jaw surgical device under one of the claims in clauses 1 through 6 in which a bridge is provided with a reinforcing ring and / or a rod of such ring that connects to the bridge at two separate locations.
8. An upper jaw surgical device under one of the claims in clauses 1 through 7 in which at least two devices are made to be used together in upper jaw surgery. 9.
10. An auxiliary jaw surgery device under any of the claims in Clauses 1 through 8, which includes an accessory containing at least one bone-cutting guide unit.
11. An auxiliary jaw surgery device under any of the claims in Clauses 1 through 9, which is of a nature where the main and accessory parts can be fabricated separately and then assembled.
12. An auxiliary jaw surgery device under any of the claims in Clauses 1 through 11, which is of a nature where the main and accessory parts can be fabricated separately and then assembled during surgery to support minimally invasive surgery.
13. An auxiliary jaw surgery device under any of the claims in Clauses 1 through 12, which has at least one bone-cutting guide unit that has one of the following characteristics:The I-shaped bone cutting guide unit consists of at least one rail, the width of which is determined by two sides facing each other and parallel along its length. These rails are positioned horizontally to pre-determine the cutting alignment in the medial-lateral and medial directions, allowing for initiation of the upper jaw bone cutting from both the lateral and medial directions. The H-shaped bone cutting guide unit consists of two rails, the width of which is determined by two sides facing each other and parallel along its length. These two rails are also positioned parallel to each other, each oriented horizontally to pre-determine the cutting alignment in the medial-lateral and medial directions, allowing for initiation of the upper jaw bone cutting from two parallel directions. The A-shaped bone-cutting unit consists of several rails, the width of which is determined by two converging walls. These rails are positioned horizontally to pre-determine the bone-cutting alignment in both the medial and lateral directions, allowing for initiation of the upper jaw bone cutting from both the lateral and medial directions, in two converging directions. The V-shaped bone-cutting guide unit consists of two rails, the width of which is determined by two facing, parallel walls along the length of the rail. These two rails converge near the first or second outer edge. Each rail is positioned horizontally to pre-determine the bone-cutting line in the medial-lateral direction, allowing for initiation of the upper jaw bone cutting from both the lateral and medial directions, converging near the first or second outer edge. The Y-shaped bone-cutting guide unit consists of two rails, the width of which is determined by two facing, parallel walls along the length of the rail. These two rails converge at the midline along the longitudinal axis of one of the rails. Each rail is positioned horizontally to pre-determine the bone-cutting line in both the medial and lateral directions, allowing the initiation of upper jaw bone cutting from both the lateral and medial directions. (medial direction) consists of two lines that meet at the midline along the length of one of the rails.25c. The T-shape bone cutting unit shall have the characteristics of either (a) to (e) above and shall also consist of at least one diagonal rail positioned in the vertical direction, where the width of each diagonal rail is determined by the two walls of the diagonal rails facing each other and parallel along the entire length of the rail, thus predetermining at least one additional diagonal bone cutting line in the superior-inferior direction above the midline of the body.14.
15. An assistive device for upper jaw bone surgery under any of the claims in clauses 1 through 13, which includes a positioning channel and is supplemented with a bone drilling guide through which the bone drilling instrument can pass, enabling the positioning and pathway of the upper jaw bone to be drilled by the bone drilling instrument during the surgical procedure.
16. An assistive device for upper jaw bone surgery under any of the claims in clauses 1 through 14, which is made of a choice of at least one metal or polymer or ceramic or other biocompatible material.
17. An assistive device for upper jaw bone surgery under any of the claims in clauses 1 through 15, which is supplemented with an upper jaw bone fixation device.
