Abstract

The invention relates to a biocompatible medical glove with a photocatalytically active, bio-based composite structure that is reusable due to its resistance to sterilization processes, and is antimicrobial and self-disinfecting. The medical glove in question consists of a multilayered composite structure comprising a photocatalytically active outer layer, a mechanically stabilizing intermediate layer, and a biocompatible antimicrobial inner layer. The outer layer contains zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and / or graphitic carbon nitride nanoparticles dispersed within a poly(butylene succinate) biopolymer matrix. The photocatalytically active structure generates reactive oxygen species under visible light, oxidatively inactivating microorganisms on the surface. The inner layer contains a biocompatible antimicrobial film structure composed of polycaprolactone, chitosan, and plant essential oils. This invention results in a medical glove that is biodegradable, biocompatible, resistant to repeated sterilization, and provides bidirectional antimicrobial protection.
