Abstract
This modular hydraulic column system is described for recovering the flow energy generated during the controlled and gradual reduction of high hydrostatic pressure in vertical clean water columns used in multi-story buildings, by converting it into mechanical energy. The system includes a flow management structure that directs the fluid from the column to a hydraulic turbine in a controlled manner, a hydraulic turbine system that converts the flow energy into mechanical rotational motion, a pressure regulation structure that gradually reduces the hydrostatic pressure of the fluid, and a power transmission structure that can transfer the obtained mechanical energy outside the system. It also incorporates structural elements aimed at balancing the flow, preventing backflow, ensuring leak-tightness, facilitating maintenance procedures, and increasing system safety. The system operates solely using the hydraulic energy of the fluid, without the need for any external power source, electronic control unit, or active drive mechanism. This allows for both the reduction of hydrostatic pressure to safe levels and the recovery of usable mechanical energy. This enables increased energy efficiency in high-rise buildings, reduction of pressure-induced mechanical loads, and more efficient operation of the existing water distribution infrastructure without generating additional energy consumption.
