Abstract
Description
[Technical Field]
[0001] This invention relates to an electronic device, and more particularly to a display. This invention also relates to a method for automatically adjusting the size of the screen display area. [Previous Technology]
[0002] With the development of display technology, the size of monitors is getting larger and larger. Each monitor size has a corresponding comfortable viewing distance. If the viewing distance is too small, the excessively large field of view will cause eye discomfort. How to develop a new monitor that can avoid eye discomfort caused by an excessively large field of view is the subject of further exploration in this invention. [Summary of the Invention]
[0003] Therefore, the object of the present invention is to provide a display that automatically adjusts the size of the screen display area.
[0004] The purpose of this invention is to provide a method for automatically adjusting the size of the screen display area.
[0005] Thus, the present invention provides a display that automatically adjusts the size of the screen display area, comprising a distance sensing unit, a panel unit, a backlight unit, and a control unit. The distance sensing unit is used to sense the distance between a user and the display to generate a distance sensing result. The panel unit has a displayable area. The backlight unit includes a plurality of light-emitting modules and is used to provide backlight to the panel unit. The control unit is electrically connected to the distance sensing unit, the panel unit, and the backlight unit.
[0006] When the distance sensing result falls within a predetermined distance range, the control unit adjusts the size of a screen display area in the displayable area of the panel unit according to the distance sensing result, and when the screen display area does not fill the displayable area, turns off the light-emitting module of the backlight unit that corresponds to a non-screen display area outside the screen display area in the displayable area, wherein the size of the screen display area is positively correlated with the distance sensing result.
[0007] In some implementations, the non-screen display area is black.
[0008] In some implementations, the display area is scaled while maintaining the original aspect ratio.
[0009] In some embodiments, the distance sensing unit senses the distance between the user's face and the display to generate the distance sensing result.
[0010] In some embodiments, the distance sensing unit is a time-of-flight ranging sensing unit.
[0011] The present invention provides a method for automatically adjusting the size of a screen display area, implemented by a display, the display including a distance sensing unit, a panel unit, a backlight unit, and a control unit. The method includes: when the distance sensing result falls within a predetermined distance range, the control unit adjusts the size of a screen display area in the displayable area of the panel unit according to the distance sensing result; and when the screen display area does not fill the displayable area, the control unit turns off a light-emitting module in the backlight unit that corresponds to a non-screen display area outside the screen display area in the displayable area. The size of the screen display area is positively correlated with the distance sensing result.
[0012] The advantages of the present invention are as follows: by adjusting the size of the display area in the displayable area of the panel unit according to the distance sensing result by the control unit, and the size of the display area is positively correlated with the distance sensing result, eye discomfort caused by excessive screen field of view can be avoided. Furthermore, when the display area does not fill the displayable area, the control unit turns off the light-emitting modules of the backlight unit that correspond to the non-display area outside the displayable area, thereby achieving energy saving effect.
Implementation Method
[0014] Before the present invention is described in detail, it should be noted that similar elements are represented by the same numbers in the following description.
[0015] Referring to Figures 1 and 2, an embodiment of the display 100 of the present invention, which automatically adjusts the size of the screen display area, includes a distance sensing unit 1, a panel unit 2, a backlight unit 3, and a control unit 4. The display 100 is, for example, a television or a computer monitor.
[0016] The distance sensing unit 1 is used to sense the distance between a user and the display 100 to generate a distance sensing result. In this embodiment, the distance sensing unit 1 senses the distance between the user's face and the display 100 to generate the distance sensing result, and the distance sensing unit 1 is a time-of-flight ranging sensing unit.
[0017] The panel unit 2 has a displayable area 50 (the largest area where an image can be displayed). The panel unit 2 is, for example, a liquid crystal panel unit.
[0018] The backlight unit 3 includes a plurality of light-emitting modules 31 and is used to provide backlight for the panel unit 2.
[0019] The control unit 4 is electrically connected to the distance sensing unit 1, the panel unit 2 and the backlight unit 3.
[0020] When the distance sensing result is greater than a predetermined distance range, the control unit 4 controls a screen display area 501 in the displayable area 50 of the panel unit 2 to fill the displayable area 50, as shown in FIG2.
[0021] Referring to Figures 1, 3 and 4, when the distance sensing result falls within the predetermined distance range, the control unit 4 adjusts the size of the display area 501 in the displayable area 50 of the panel unit 2 according to the distance sensing result, and when the display area 501 does not fill the displayable area 50, the control unit 4 turns off the light-emitting module 31 of the backlight unit 3 that corresponds to a non-display area 502 outside the display area 50 of the displayable area 50.
[0022] The size of the display area 501 is positively correlated with the distance sensing result. Taking Figures 3 and 4 as examples, if the distance sensing result corresponding to Figure 4 is smaller than the distance sensing result corresponding to Figure 3, the control unit 4 automatically adjusts the size of the display area 501 in Figure 4 to be smaller than the size of the display area 501 in Figure 3.
[0023] In this embodiment, the non-display area 502 is black. Furthermore, the display area 501 is scaled while maintaining its original aspect ratio.
[0024] In summary, the display 100 of the present invention automatically adjusts the size of the display area 501 in the displayable area 50 of the panel unit 2 by means of the control unit 4 adjusting the size of the display area 501 in the displayable area 50 of the panel unit 2 according to the distance sensing result, and the size of the display area 501 is positively correlated with the distance sensing result, thereby avoiding eye discomfort caused by an excessively large field of view. Furthermore, when the display area 501 does not fill the displayable area 50, the control unit 4 turns off the light-emitting modules 31 of the backlight unit 3 that correspond to the non-display area 502 outside the display area 501 in the displayable area 50, thereby reducing power consumption and achieving energy saving effect. Therefore, the purpose of the present invention can indeed be achieved.
