Abstract

An energy storage system includes multiple battery packs, multiple switching units, a battery cell, and a control device. Each switching unit is controllable to turn on or off its input and output ports. The input port of each switching unit is electrically connected to the power output port of each battery pack. The battery cell is electrically connected to the output ports of the switching units. The control device is electrically connected to the battery packs. The control device acquires a first voltage of each battery pack and determines that when the first voltage of at least one battery pack is greater than a first predetermined voltage, it defines it as at least one target battery pack. The control device then controls the switching unit corresponding to the at least one target battery pack to turn on, so that the first voltage of the at least one target battery pack is less than or equal to the first predetermined voltage, thereby achieving battery balancing.
