Abstract

Decoder for decoding a digital wave form signal, DWS, from a data stream, the DWS having a plurality of channels, wherein the decoder is configured to decode a channel dependency indicator, indicating a partitioning of the channels of the plurality of channels into subsets of channels; and wherein the decoder is configured to perform a decoding of a channel signal of a channel of a subset of channels by exploiting inter-channel dependencies between channels of the same subset of channels and without exploiting inter-channel dependencies between channels of different subsets of channels. Encoder for encoding a digital wave form signal, DWS, into a data stream, the DWS having a plurality of channels, wherein the encoder is configured to encode a channel dependency indicator, indicating a partitioning of the channels of the plurality of channels in subsets of channels; and wherein the encoder is configured to perform an encoding of a channel signal of a channel of a subset of channels by exploiting inter-channel dependencies between channels of the same subset of channels and without exploiting inter-channel dependencies between channels of different subsets of channels.
