Abstract

The objective of this invention is to effectively utilize resources. The solid-state imaging device of this invention includes: a pixel array, a readout circuit, a counting circuit, a memory circuit, a control circuit, and a histogram processing circuit. The pixel array is arranged in an array containing pixels of a light-receiving element for detecting incident photons. The readout circuit reads detection signals from the aforementioned pixels at sampling periods. The counting circuit counts the number of detection signals read from the aforementioned readout circuit in each sampling period, in macro-pixel units containing the aforementioned pixels. The memory circuit stores the counted pixel values ​​of each of the aforementioned macro-pixels in each sampling period in bin units having a width defined based on the aforementioned sampling period. The control circuit dynamically determines the number of bins allocated to a plurality of the aforementioned macro-pixels for each of the aforementioned macro-pixels. The histogram processing circuit generates a histogram for each of the aforementioned macro-pixels based on the values ​​stored in the bins allocated to that macro-pixel.
