Cooking appliance with multiple modes

Abstract

A cooking appliance has a housing enclosing an inner cooking chamber, a front housing opening providing access to the inner cooking chamber, and a top housing opening. The cooking appliance includes an airflow conduit for directing air from a first location within to a second location within or adjacent the inner cooking chamber and an airflow generator for generating airflow within the airflow conduit. The cooking appliance further includes a housing heating element at least partially within the airflow conduit such that air removed from the first location is returned to the second location only after passing the housing heating element. In a first cooking mode, the housing is opened by way of the front housing opening and the airflow generator generates airflow within the airflow conduit, and in a second cooking mode, the housing is opened by way of the top housing opening.
