Extract of akkermansia muciniphila BAA-835 and use thereof

Abstract

An extract of Akkermansia muciniphila BAA-835 is provided, comprising: providing a bacterial culture medium containing Akkermansia muciniphila BAA-835; centrifuging the bacterial culture medium to obtain a supernatant and a precipitate; extracting a portion of the supernatant with ethyl acetate to obtain an aqueous ethyl acetate layer; drying the aqueous ethyl acetate layer to obtain an aqueous ethyl acetate extract; extracting the remaining portion of the supernatant with n-hexane to obtain an aqueous n-hexane layer and an organic n-hexane layer; and drying the aqueous n-hexane layer and the organic n-hexane layer respectively to obtain the aqueous n-hexane extract and the organic n-hexane extract. Also provided is a use of the extract as described above for treating overweight or obesity, increasing GLP-1, lowering triglycerides, or combinations thereof.
