Abstract

A composition comprising a trihydroxybenzene having a protecting group as represented by formula (II) below, said composition satisfying at least one condition selected from the group consisting of (a-1) and (a-2) below. (a-1) The total content of the metal element is less than 500 ppm. (a-2) The content of each metal element is less than 20 ppm. [In formula (II), X1 to X3 are independently hydrogen atoms, hydrocarbon groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, acetyl groups having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, silyl groups having 3 to 30 carbon atoms, or sulfonyl groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms.]
