Abstract

The method for manufacturing the fluoropolymer of the present invention involves polymerizing a monomer containing tetrafluoroethylene in an aqueous dispersion containing a first fluoropolymer with a glass transition temperature of 10°C or less and an aqueous medium to produce a second fluoropolymer different from the first fluoropolymer. Before the monomer polymerization begins, the content of the first fluoropolymer is greater than 4% by mass and less than 50% by mass relative to the total mass of the aqueous dispersion. Furthermore, before the monomer polymerization begins, the concentrations of the emulsifier having fluorine atoms and the hydrocarbon emulsifier are both less than 100 ppm by mass relative to the total mass of the first fluoropolymer in the aqueous dispersion.
