Abstract

This invention provides a novel hard coating and a hard-coated tool with excellent wear resistance and weld resistance to a wide range of cut materials. A first layer group 34 and a second layer group of alternating nanolayers 36 are stacked, in which at least three layers selected from nanolayer A 36a, nanolayer B 36b, nanolayer C 36c, or nanolayer D 36d are deposited alternately. By selecting the composition ratio of each layer or adding elements, the particle growth in each layer changes. Therefore, by controlling the crystal size and the relationship between crystal orientation (200) and orientation (111), the relationship between the hardness and toughness of the coating can be optimized, thereby improving durability.
