Induction coil for producing a single crystal by a zone refining method, comprising: an annular coil body having an opening in its center and possessing a first and a second end separated by a slot extending substantially in the radial direction from the opening, wherein the induction coil is fabricated from a material from a group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten, and tantalum.
