Abstract

The decoding device includes memory and circuitry capable of accessing the memory. The circuitry is configured to: determine whether to apply a first processing step and a second processing step for the current block, and determine whether to apply at least one of the first and second processing steps for the current block. The first processing step is bidirectional optical flow processing of the spatial gradient of the reference brightness. In the first state, it is determined that the first processing step is applied and the second processing step is not applied. Multiple prediction images of the current block are generated based on multiple reference images, and a final prediction image is generated based on the multiple prediction images and the spatial gradient of brightness. In the second state, it is determined that the first processing step is not applied and the second processing step is applied. Multiple prediction images of the current block are generated based on multiple reference images, and a final prediction image is generated by weighting the multiple prediction images.
