An evaporator

Abstract

Disclosed herein is an evaporator, comprising at least one base plate unit configured with a heatsink region having a proximal face configured to directly contact a heat source and an opposed distal face, wherein a plurality of thin fins having variable cross-section height extends from said distal face, where a plurality of wick layers composed of porous material is installed between said plurality of thin fins. The evaporator may also comprise a cover unit adapted with at least one liquid refrigerant inlet and at least one vapor refrigerant outlet. Said cover unit and said at least one base plate unit confine a volume, into which liquid refrigerant inflows via said at least one liquid refrigerant inlet, engages said plurality of wick layers, being wicked towards drier portions thereof therein, where it vaporizes, and finally evacuates via said at least one vapor refrigerant outlet, thereby dissipating heat from said heat source.
