Abstract

This technology relates to an imaging element and electronic device that can expand the dynamic range without reducing the saturation charge of a photodiode. The technology includes a photoelectric conversion unit that converts light into electrical charge, a plurality of accumulation units that temporarily accumulate charge, a plurality of transfer units that transfer charge to the accumulation units, and through trenches that separate pixels; wherein at least one of the plurality of accumulation units is a capacitor, and at least one of the accumulation units accumulates the charge overflowing from the photoelectric conversion unit. This technology can be applied, for example, to imaging elements that capture images.
