Description

[Technical Field]

[0001] This invention relates to a heat shrink tubing connection system, and more particularly to an automated heat shrink tubing connection system for double-ended wires with rubber shells. [Previous Technology]

[0002] Signal cables are common electronic components used to connect components in a single device or different devices via electrical signals. They are typically made of double-ended terminald wires with a rubber sheath and heat-shrink tubing. As signal cables are a very mature product, in a market environment with high demand and extremely low profit margins, manufacturers are exploring ways to increase profits and further expand their existing market share. As a result, some previously overlooked processes have been incorporated into R&D plans for improvement.

[0003] Traditionally, these signal cables are produced using multiple automated machines supplemented by manual labor. After terminalizing one end and inserting the heat-shrink tubing, heat shrink tubing must be threaded through. This leads to technical challenges such as misaligned wire harnesses and the need to thread multiple wires through a single heat-shrink tubing simultaneously. Existing automated machines can only terminalize and insert the heat-shrink tubing at one end of the wire, while only terminalizing the other end. Subsequent manual work, including inserting the heat-shrink tubing and inserting the terminal into the heat-shrink tubing at the other end, is extremely costly, and there is a risk of errors in wire placement during manual heat-shrink tubing, resulting in lower product yield.

[0004] In order to solve the above problems, improve the production yield of signal lines and reduce manufacturing costs, the present invention was proposed. [Summary of the Invention]

[0005] This paragraph extracts and compiles certain features of the invention. Other features will be disclosed in subsequent paragraphs. Its purpose is to cover various modifications and similar arrangements within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

[0006] To address the aforementioned problems and improve the production yield of signal cables while reducing manufacturing costs, this invention proposes an automated heat shrink tubing splicing system. This automated heat shrink tubing splicing system includes: a first wire clamp, which opens and closes in a first direction to divide and clamp multiple loosely arranged horizontally arranged wires into upper and lower groups, and to release these wires; a second wire clamp, which opens and closes along a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, clamping and releasing the two groups of wires respectively; a switch, mounted on a frame and coupled to the first and second wire clamps to control their opening and closing; and a heat shrink tubing guide device, mounted on the frame, including: a heat shrink tubing guide rod for fitting a section of heat shrink tubing, the end of the heat shrink tubing guide rod forming a three-claw structure, the three-claw structure having two first grooves corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires, the width of the first grooves being slightly larger than the wires. The heat shrink tubing includes: an outer diameter of the material; a rotary cylinder rotatably connected to the heat shrink tubing guide rod, which rotates the heat shrink tubing guide rod back and forth between a first position and a second position, wherein the heat shrink tubing guide rod is fitted into the heat shrink tubing at the first position, and the first ends of the two groups of wires are respectively inserted and fixed in the corresponding first grooves at the second position; a clamp for clamping the heat shrink tubing and removing it from the heat shrink tubing guide rod, moving it toward the second ends of the wires fixed with rubber shells to fit the heat shrink tubing over the wires; and a linear guide assembly comprising multiple independent linear guides mounted on the frame, wherein the slide of one of the linear guides is connected to the clamp, and the linear guide slides to control the operation of the connecting elements.

[0007] The automated heat shrink tubing connection system may further include a wire positioning plate connected to the slide seat of one of the linear slide rails in the linear slide rail assembly. The wire positioning plate has a hook end. When the wire positioning plate moves, the hook end pulls one group of wires in the group to a state parallel to another group, restoring the orderly horizontal arrangement.

[0008] The automated heat shrink tubing connection system may further include a programmable logic controller (PLC) that is signal-connected to the switch, the rotary cylinder, the clamp and the linear slide rail assembly, and controls the operation of the switch, the rotary cylinder, the clamp and the linear slide rail assembly according to an operating procedure.

[0009] The aforementioned operating procedure includes the following steps: 1) Opening the first wire clamp with the switch, and when the orderly horizontally arranged wires are placed in the first wire clamp, partially closing the first wire clamp to divide the wires into two groups; 2) Fully closing the second wire clamp with the switch, clamping and bringing the two groups of wires together; 3) After the heat shrink tubing is inserted into the heat shrink tubing guide rod, controlling the rotary cylinder to rotate the heat shrink tubing guide rod from the first position to the second position, so that the first ends of the two groups of wires are respectively inserted and fixed in the corresponding first grooves; 4) Controlling the clamp to clamp one end of the heat shrink tubing; 5) Opening the first wire clamp and the second wire clamp with the switch, and controlling the clamp to move towards the second end of the two groups of wires through the linear slide rail combination to attach the heat shrink tubing to the outside of the wires; 6) 7) Control the rotary cylinder to transfer the heat shrink tubing guide rod from the second position to the first position; 8) Partially close the second wire clamp by the switch to keep each group of wires loose but not clustered; 9) Move the wire return plate by the linear slide rail assembly to hook one group of wires and pull them back to an orderly horizontal arrangement; 10) Partially close the first wire clamp by the switch to perform wire stripping operation; and 11) Open the first wire clamp by the switch to remove the wires with heat shrink tubing attached.

[0010] According to the present invention, the first wire clamp may include: a lower clamp plate with two fixed steps having a step difference at the upper part; and an upper clamp plate with a narrowed width at the lower part, and a clamping edge is formed corresponding to the two fixed steps respectively. When the first wire clamp is fully closed, each fixed step is in close contact with the corresponding clamping edge.

[0011] According to the present invention, the second wire clamp may include: a left clamping plate with two second grooves formed inwardly on its side edges corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires, the width of the second grooves being slightly larger than the outer diameter of the wires, and a first spacer between the second grooves extending outwardly and tapering to form a sharp end; and a right clamping plate with two sidewall segments formed inwardly on its side edges corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires and having a step difference. When the second wire clamp is partially closed, the left clamping plate and the right clamping plate move in opposite directions, adjacent to each other without touching, and each sidewall segment closes with a corresponding second groove to clamp and gather a group of wires together.

[0012] The second wire clamp may also include: a left clamp plate with two second grooves formed inwardly on its side edges corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires, the width of the second grooves being slightly larger than the outer diameter of the wires, and a first spacer between the second grooves extending outwards and tapering to form a sharp end; and a right clamp plate with two third grooves formed inwardly on its side edges corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires, the width of the third grooves being slightly larger than the outer diameter of the wires, and a second spacer between the third grooves extending outwards and tapering to form a sharp end. When the second wire clamp is partially closed, the left clamp plate and the right clamp plate move in opposite directions, adjacent to each other without touching, and each second groove and a corresponding third groove close to clamp and gather a group of wires together.

[0013] According to the present invention, the end of the sidewall between the first grooves is sharpened, thereby facilitating the entry of the first end of the wire into the first groove.

[0014] According to the present invention, the switch may include a plurality of motors or cylinders, which open and close the first wire clamp via a linkage mechanism connected to the upper clamp or the lower clamp. Similarly, the switch may also include a plurality of motors or cylinders, which open and close the second wire clamp via a linkage mechanism connected to the left clamp or the right clamp.

[0015] This invention utilizes a specially designed heat shrink tubing guide device to orderly group wires, thereby facilitating the simultaneous attachment of multiple wires to the heat shrink tubing without losing their order. The attached wires can then be directly crimped with terminals, reducing the cost of manual processing.

Implementation Method

[0016] The present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the following embodiments.

[0017] Please refer to Figure 1, which is a schematic diagram of the components of an automated heat shrink tubing splicing system according to an embodiment of the present invention. The automated heat shrink tubing splicing system includes a first wire clamp 10, a second wire clamp 20, a switch 30, a heat shrink tubing guide device 40, a clamp 50, a linear guide rail assembly 60, a wire return plate 70, and a programmable logic controller (PLC) 80. These technical components and the operation of the automated heat shrink tubing splicing system will be described below with reference to the relevant figures.

[0018] The first wire clamp 10 opens and closes in a first direction to divide and clamp multiple loosely and orderly horizontally arranged wires into upper and lower groups, and to release these wires. For ease of explanation, the first direction is indicated by hollow double arrows, which can be perpendicular to the ground where the automated heat shrink tubing splicing system is installed. Please see Figure 2, which illustrates the configuration of wires C used in the automated heat shrink tubing splicing system. The multiple wires C clamped by the first wire clamp 10 (in this embodiment, 7 wires C are used as an example, but in practice, the number is not limited and depends on the requirements of the final signal or power lines) are loosely and orderly arranged horizontally before being fitted with heat shrink tubing. That is, the wires C are not deformed or pressed together by external forces, and are arranged in an orderly manner in the horizontal direction without crossing or changing positions anywhere. This order is determined by the arrangement of the terminals inside the housings of the connectors installed at both ends; arbitrary adjustments will cause defects in the finished product. For ease of explanation, the wires C in Figure 2 are defined as having the same first end C1 and second end C2. The first end C1 is an open end, and the wire C was not processed after cutting. These wires C are secured to the second end C2 by crimping with a plastic shell C3.

[0019] The purpose of dividing multiple loosely arranged horizontally arranged wires C into upper and lower groups is to maintain the orderly horizontal arrangement of wires C in each group, but the number of wires C in each group is about half of the total number. Reducing the number of wires C in each group can reduce the occurrence of wire misalignment during processing operations, and it is also more convenient to attach heat shrink tubing. To achieve this purpose, the first wire clamp 10 has a special design. Please see Figure 3, which illustrates the detailed structure of the first wire clamp 10. The first wire clamp 10 includes an upper clamping plate 11 and a lower clamping plate 12. Two fixed steps 121 and 122 with a step difference are formed above the lower clamping plate 12, and the width narrows (diagonal part) above the left fixed step 121. The width narrows (diagonal part) below the upper clamping plate 11, and a clamping edge 111 and 112 are formed corresponding to the two fixed steps 121 and 122, respectively. When the first wire clamp 10 is fully closed, the fixing step 121 is in close contact with the corresponding clamping edge 111, and the fixing step 122 is in close contact with the corresponding clamping edge 112. The narrowed width design makes it easier to fix the wire C.

[0020] Please refer to Figure 4, which illustrates the grouping of several wires C when the first wire clamp 10 clamps them. It should be noted that the first wire clamp 10 in Figure 4 is in a partially closed state. Partial closure means that the upper clamp 11 and lower clamp 12 are neither fully open (at their furthest distance) nor in a completely closed, tight-fitting state. The distance maintained between the upper clamp 11 and lower clamp 12 is just enough to clamp the wires C, preventing them from moving. Due to the step difference between the fixed steps 121 and 122, three wires C are clamped by the fixed step 121 and clamping edge 111, and four wires C are clamped by the fixed step 122 and clamping edge 112, thus grouping the wires C.

[0021] The second wire clamp 20 opens and closes along a second direction (indicated by solid double arrows) perpendicular to the first direction, clamping and releasing the two groups of wires C respectively. Furthermore, since each group of wires C is still in a loose state, making subsequent operations inconvenient, the second wire clamp 20 is the technical component that brings the wires C in each group closer together. See Figure 5, which illustrates the detailed structure of the second wire clamp 20. The second wire clamp 20 includes a left clamping plate 21 and a right clamping plate 22. The side edge of the left clamping plate 21 forms two second grooves 211 corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires C. The width of the second grooves 211 is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the wires C (in this example, the width of the second grooves 211 is approximately 0.05 mm larger than the width of the wires C). A first spacer 212 between the second grooves 211 extends outward and tapers to form a sharp end, and the sidewalls of the second grooves 211 also have chamfered ends. The design of the chamfer and the first spacer 212 facilitates the sliding of wire C into the second groove 211 under force. The side edge of the right clamp 22 forms two side wall segments 221 corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires C and having a step difference. When the second wire clamp 20 is partially closed, the left clamp 21 and the right clamp 22 move in opposite directions, adjacent but not touching. Each side wall segment 221 closes with a corresponding second groove 211 to clamp and gather a group of wires C. The state in which the left clamp 21 and the right clamp 22 clamp and gather the wires C is shown in Figure 6. Here, the partial closure of the second wire clamp 20 is defined as the left clamp 21 and the right clamp 22 not being in a fully open state (farthest distance), nor being in a state where the side wall segment 221 and the corresponding second groove 211 cannot accommodate any wire C when fully closed, but rather retaining the minimum passage area when each group of wires C is squeezed.

[0022] The second wire clamp 20 has another structure for clamping, closing, and releasing the two groups of wires C respectively. Referring again to Figure 5, the left clamp 21 remains unchanged, with its side edges forming two second grooves 211 corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires C. The width of these second grooves 211 is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the wires C. The first spacer 212 between these second grooves 211 extends outward and tapers to form a sharp end. The right clamp 22 is partially modified, with its side edges forming two third grooves 222 corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires C. The width of these third grooves 222 is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the wires C. A second spacer 223 between these third grooves 222 extends outward and tapers to form a sharp end. The sidewalls of the third grooves 222 also have chamfered ends. In fact, the structure of the left clamp 21 and the right clamp 22 is the same in this part. When the second wire clamp 20 is partially closed, the left clamp 21 and the right clamp 22 move in opposite directions, adjacent but not touching. Each second groove 211 closes with a corresponding third groove 222 to clamp and bring together a group of wires C.

[0023] As shown in Figure 1, the switch 30 is mounted on a frame F and coupled to the first wire clamp 10 and the second wire clamp 20 to control their opening and closing. When the automated heat shrink tubing connection system is a standalone device, the frame F is its base; when the automated heat shrink tubing connection system is connected to other systems, the frame F can be the base of another system. The switch 30 may contain multiple motors or cylinders (not shown, different driving methods), which open and close the first wire clamp 10 through a linkage mechanism 31 connected to the upper clamp 11 or the lower clamp 12. According to the present invention, the design of the linkage mechanism 31 is not limited, as long as it can move in the first direction to open and close the upper clamp 11 or the lower clamp 12. Similarly, the switch 30 also opens and closes the second wire clamp 20 through a linkage mechanism 32 connected to the left clamp 21 or the right clamp 22.

[0024] Please refer to Figures 7 and 8, which illustrate the heat shrink tubing guide device 40. In Figure 7, a heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 is located in a first position, and in Figure 8, the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 is located in a second position. The heat shrink tubing guide device 40 is mounted on the frame F and includes the aforementioned heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 and a rotary cylinder 42. The heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 is used to fit a section of heat shrink tubing S. The end of the heat shrink tubing guide rod forms a three-claw structure 411. Please refer to Figure 9, which is a perspective view of the three-claw structure 411. The three-claw structure 411 has two first grooves 4111 corresponding to the positions of the two groups of wires C, and the width of the first grooves 4111 is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the wires C. The end of the sidewall 4112 between the first grooves 4111 is sharpened to facilitate the entry of the first end C1 of the wire into the first groove 4111, which will be explained below.

[0025] The rotary cylinder 42 is rotatably connected to the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41, and its function is to rotate the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 back and forth between the aforementioned first position and second position. In the first position, the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 can be fitted into the heat shrink tubing S, that is, in this position, the heat shrink tubing S to be fitted onto the wire C is fitted onto the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41. When the heat shrink tubing S is used, and the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 returns to the first position, a new heat shrink tubing S can be fitted onto the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41. In this embodiment, the first position is when the heat shrink tubing S faces the direction of the Earth's center. The action of fitting the heat shrink tubing S onto the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 can be done manually or by relying on other automatic fitting equipment; this invention is not limited to this. When the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 rotates to the second position, the first ends C1 of the two groups of wires C will be respectively inserted and fixed into the corresponding first grooves 4111. Figure 10 shows the state in which the first grooves 4111 hold the two groups of wires C when the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 is in the second position. The second position is the maximum angle at which the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 rotates relative to the first position. In practice, the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 is parallel to the ground surface in the second position.

[0026] The function of the clamp 50 is to clamp the heat shrink tubing S and remove it from the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41, moving it towards the second end C2 of the wires C, which is fixed with a rubber shell, to fit the heat shrink tubing S over the wires C. The type of clamp 50 is not limited, as long as it can stably grip and move the heat shrink tubing S. In operation, the clamp 50 will reciprocate within a specific space. For a better understanding, please refer to Figure 11, which illustrates the movement trajectory of the clamp 50. When the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 is in the second position, and as shown in Figure 10, the first end C1 of the wires C is inserted and fixed in the first groove 4111 of the three-jaw structure 411, the clamp 50 clamps the heat shrink tubing S. At this time, the clamp 50 is in the central position in Figure 11. Next, clamp 50 grips the heat shrink tubing S and moves it along the wire C to near the housing C3 (the second end C2 of wire C), allowing the heat shrink tubing S to fit over the outside of wire C. At this point, clamp 50 is positioned at the lower left of Figure 11. For reference, it can be seen that clamp 50 moves back and forth between the two sides of the first wire clamp 10.

[0027] The linear guide assembly 60 includes multiple independent linear guides 61 mounted on the frame F. One slide 611 of these linear guides is connected to the clamp 50, and another slide 611 is connected to the wire return plate 70. The linear guides 61 slide to control the operation of the connecting elements, such as the displacement of the clamp 50 and the wire return plate 70. See Figure 12, which illustrates the operation of the wire return plate 70. The wire return plate 70 has a hook end 71. When the wire return plate 70 moves, the hook end 71 pulls one group of wires C in one group to a parallel state with another group, restoring the orderly horizontal arrangement.

[0028] The programmable logic controller 80 is connected to the switch 30, rotary cylinder 42, clamp 50, and linear guide rail assembly 60 via signal line 81. The programmable logic controller 80 controls the operation of the switch 30, rotary cylinder 42, clamp 50, and linear guide rail assembly 60 according to an operating procedure. The operating procedure of the programmable logic controller 80 is also the operating mode of the automated heat shrink tubing connection system. The following describes each step of the operating procedure.

[0029] First step: Open the first wire clamp 10 by switch 30. When the orderly horizontally arranged wires are placed in the first wire clamp 10, partially close the first wire clamp 10 to divide these wires C into two groups.

[0030] Second step: Completely close the second wire clamp 20 by switching device 30, and clamp the two groups of wires C together.

[0031] Third step: After the heat shrink tubing S is inserted into the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41, the rotary cylinder 42 is controlled to rotate the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 from the first position to the second position, so that the first ends C1 of the two groups of wires C are respectively inserted into and fixed in the corresponding first grooves 4111.

[0032] Fourth step: Control the clamp 50 to clamp one end of the heat shrink tubing S.

[0033] Fifth step: Turn on the first wire clamp 10 and the second wire clamp 20 by switching device 30, and control the clamp 50 to move towards the second end C2 of the two groups of wires C by linear slide rail assembly 60 so as to fit the heat shrink tubing S onto the outside of these wires C.

[0034] Sixth step: Control the rotary cylinder 42 to rotate the heat shrink tubing guide rod 41 from the second position to the first position, so as to fit another section of heat shrink tubing.

[0035] Seventh step: partially close the second wire clamp 20 by switching device 30, so that each group of wires C remains loose but not clustered together.

[0036] Eighth step: Move the wire positioning plate 70 using the linear slide rail combination 60 to hook one group of wires and pull them back to an orderly horizontal arrangement.

[0037] Ninth step: Close the first wire clamp 10 by switching device 30 to perform wire stripping operation.

[0038] Tenth step: Open the first wire clamp 10 by switching device 30 to remove the wire C that has been fitted with heat shrink tubing S.

[0039] Although the present invention has been disclosed above by way of embodiments, it is not intended to limit the present invention. Anyone with ordinary knowledge in the art can make some modifications and refinements without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
