Methods and apparatus of combined prediction mode with intra mode derivation in video coding systems

Abstract

A method and apparatus of video coding using combined prediction are disclosed. According to the method, input data associated with a current block is receiving, wherein the input data comprise pixel data for the current block to be encoded at an encoder side or coded data associated with the current block to be decoded at a decoder side. One or more hypotheses of inter motion compensated prediction are determined based on motion information. One or more hypotheses of intra prediction are determined, wherein one or more intra prediction modes associated with the intra prediction is derived associated with the motion information. Combined prediction is derived by combining said one or more hypotheses of the intra prediction and said one or more hypotheses of the inter motion compensated prediction with blending weighting. The current block is encoded or decoded using the combined prediction.
