Abstract

The object of this invention is to provide an absorbent material that exhibits good absorption performance for aqueous compositions containing organic matter. Specifically, this invention provides an absorbent material for aqueous compositions containing organic matter, comprising a cellulose material such as pulp with a fiber length of 0.2–5 mm and a fiber width of 10–50 μm; and a method for treating an aqueous composition containing organic matter, comprising: contacting the aforementioned dehydrating agent with the aqueous composition containing organic matter, thereby allowing the absorbent material to absorb the water-containing components of the aqueous composition. The cellulose material is preferably pulp with a brightness of 10–95% or a solids content of 15% or more. Furthermore, the cellulose material is preferably broadleaf or coniferous pulp, or kraft pulp.
