A method for optical network communication and a communication device

Abstract

This application provides a method for optical network communication and a communication device. The method is applied to an optical fiber network that includes a main device and at least one sub device, wherein the at least one sub device includes a first sub device. The main device sends a first message to the first sub device, and the first message includes first indication information, which is used to indicate that parameters are carried in TLV format. The first indication information is added to the traditional WMCI message to enable the transmission of parameters between the main device and the sub device in TLV format. When extended parameters (i.e., parameter types or sizes not defined by the current standard) need to be transmitted between the main device and the sub device, the main device and the sub device can determine to use TLV format to transmit these extended parameters through the first indication information. Therefore, this overcomes the limitation of parameter extension due to the traditional fixed format and enhances the flexibility of parameter extension.
