Abstract

The objective of this invention is to reduce pixel size and improve the signal-to-noise ratio (S / N). The photodetector of this invention comprises: a plurality of pixels, each having a photoelectric conversion element; a first circuit disposed in each pixel group comprising two or more pixels from the plurality of pixels, which adds or counts signals output from at least one pixel in the aforementioned pixel group; and a second circuit that performs, in parallel with the first circuit, the following process: adding or counting signals output from at least a portion of the pixels in the aforementioned pixel group that are different from at least one pixel in the aforementioned pixel group from the first circuit.
