Zirconia Powder and its Manufacturing Method

Abstract

The objective of this invention is to provide zirconia powder with reduced particle size from secondary particles and a method for manufacturing the same. The zirconia powder of this invention has a crystal phase consisting solely of monoclinic crystals and a unimodal particle size distribution. The method for manufacturing the zirconia powder of this invention comprises the following steps: a reaction step: adding heated ammonium peroxodisulfate to heated zirconium oxychloride to obtain an alkaline zirconium sulfate slurry; a dehydration step: adding ammonia water to the alkaline zirconium sulfate slurry and neutralizing it, then removing the solvent to obtain a zirconium hydroxide slurry to obtain zirconium hydroxide blocks; a re-slurry cleaning step: re-slurry cleaning the zirconium hydroxide blocks using ammonia water; a calcination step: calcining the zirconium hydroxide blocks in a furnace using superheated steam to obtain zirconium oxide; and a fragmentation step: fragmenting the zirconium oxide to obtain zirconia powder.
