[0018] To achieve the above objectives, the present invention adopts the following technical solution: A power connector includes: an insulating shell, at least one pair of power terminals, at least one pair of conductive plates, and at least one pair of signal cable fixing members. The insulating shell has a slot for inserting an insert. The pair of power terminals includes a first power terminal and a second power terminal with identical structures and symmetrically arranged in the insulating shell. The first power terminal and the second power terminal are located on opposite sides of the slot and are used to make electrical contact with two opposite insertion surfaces of the insert. Each of the first power terminal and the second power terminal has at least one power contact portion and at least one signal trigger portion. The power contact portion protrudes into the slot and is used to first make electrical contact with the insert when the insert is inserted into the slot; the signal trigger portion is used to force the power contact portion to move away from the slot after it has made electrical contact with the insert. [0019] In one embodiment, each of the first power terminal and the second power terminal is Z-shaped and has a power body portion and a power cable connection portion; the distance between the power cable connection portions of the first power terminal and the second power terminal is smaller than the distance between the power body portions.
[0020] Compared to conventional technology, the power connector of the present invention, because the power terminals are already in electrical contact with the insert before power supply, will not generate an electric arc between the power terminals and the insert when power is supplied. Furthermore, since the power connector of the present invention triggers the power supply signal by contacting the conductive plate with the power terminals, the triggering time of the power supply signal can be shortened, allowing for timely power supply to the insert. The power connector of the present invention also saves space because it eliminates the need for an additional signal triggering mechanism, resulting in a more compact structure. [0022] The following description of embodiments is with reference to the accompanying drawings, illustrating specific embodiments in which the invention can be implemented. Directional terms used in this invention, such as "up," "down," "front," "back," "left," "right," "top," and "bottom," are merely for illustrative purposes. Therefore, the directional terms used are for illustrating and understanding the invention, and not for limiting the invention.
[0023] The power connector of the present invention can be installed to a server rack, and when an insert, such as a busbar, is inserted into the power connector, power can be supplied to the server rack.
[0024] Please refer to Figures 1 and 2. In one embodiment of the present invention, the power connector 1 includes an insulating housing 10, at least one power terminal 20, at least one conductive plate 30, and at least one signal cable fixing member 40.
[0025] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the insulating housing 10 has a slot 11 for inserting an insert 8. A power terminal 20 is disposed within the insulating housing 10. Referring simultaneously to Figures 4 and 5, the power terminal 20 has at least one power contact portion 21 and at least one signal trigger portion 22. The power contact portion 21 protrudes into the slot 11 and is used to first form electrical contact with the insert 8 when it is inserted into the slot 11. The signal trigger portion 22 is forced to displace away from the slot 11 after the power contact portion 21 makes electrical contact with the insert 8. A conductive plate 30 is disposed within the insulating housing 10. The conductive plate 30 is located on the side of the power terminal 20 opposite to the slot 11 and is independent of the power terminal 20. The conductive plate 30 makes electrical contact with the signal trigger portion 22 only after the power contact portion 21 makes electrical contact with the insert 8, and disconnects from the signal trigger portion 22 after the insert 8 is removed from the slot 11 and the power contact portion 21 is released. The signal cable fixing member 40 is connected to the conductive plate 30 and is used to fix a signal cable 50. The signal cable 50 is connected to the conductive plate 30 and transmits a power supply signal when the conductive plate 30 is in electrical contact with the signal triggering part 22.
[0026] Referring to Figure 3, when the insert 8 is inserted into the slot 11, the insert 8 first makes contact with the power contact 21, then forces the power contact 21 to move away from the slot 11. Simultaneously, the signal trigger 22 follows the power contact 21, moving away from the slot 11, until the signal trigger 22 touches the conductive plate 30. At this point, the power supply system of the power connector 1 receives a power supply signal and supplies power to the insert 8. Therefore, since the power terminal 20 has already made electrical contact with the insert 8 before power supply, the power supply will not generate an electric arc between the power terminal 20 and the insert 8.
[0027] The power connector 1 of the present invention triggers the power supply signal by contacting the power terminal 20 with the conductive plate 30. For example, the power supply signal is triggered by the signal triggering part 22 directly following the displacement of the power contact part 21. Therefore, the triggering time of the power supply signal can be shortened, and the power supply to the insert 8 can be supplied in a timely manner.
[0028] The power connector 1 of the present invention directly uses the power terminal 20 and the conductive plate 30 as the signal triggering mechanism, without the need for additional structures as signal triggering mechanisms, thereby saving space in the insulating housing 10 and making the power connector 1 more compact.
[0029] The structural details of the power connector 1 according to one embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail below.
[0030] Referring to Figure 2, the insulating housing 10 has a mating side 12 and a mounting side 13, and the slot 11 is located on the mating side 12. The insulating housing 10 is also provided with at least one terminal receiving groove 14, which passes through the mating side 12 and the mounting side 13, is located on one side (e.g., above or below) of the slot 11, and is used to receive the power terminal 20 and the conductive plate 30.
[0031] Please refer to Figures 4 and 5. In this embodiment, the power terminal 20 has a plurality of power contact portions 21 arranged in a row and a plurality of signal trigger portions 22 arranged in a row.
[0032] Specifically, the power terminal 20 has a plurality of resilient fingers 23 arranged in a row; each resilient finger 23 has a protruding portion formed by bending towards the slot 11 and a free end away from the slot 11 and close to the conductive plate 30. The protruding portion serves as the power contact portion 21; the free end serves as the signal trigger portion 22. In other embodiments, other portions of the resilient fingers 23 can also be used as the signal trigger portion 22. For example, by placing the signal trigger portion 22 on the side of the protruding portion away from the free end, it is also possible to achieve that the signal trigger portion 22 makes electrical contact with the conductive plate 30 only after the power contact portion 21 has made electrical contact with the insert 8. In summary, the signal trigger portion 22 can be located on the left or right side of the protruding portion. In addition, the power terminal 20 also has a power body portion 24 and a power cable connection portion 25; wherein, the multiple elastic fingers 23 are evenly distributed and connected to the front end of the power body portion 24, and the power cable connection portion 25 is connected to the rear end of the power body portion 24 for fixed connection with at least one power cable 60.
[0033] Specifically, the power terminal 20 is formed by two vertical bends and is approximately Z-shaped; the power cable connection portion 25 is fixedly connected to the power cable 60 via a welding plate 70; the welding plate 70 is fixed to the side of the power cable connection portion 25 facing the conductive plate 30. Furthermore, multiple fixing structures 250 are formed on both sides of the power cable connection portion 25 to secure the power terminal 20 in the terminal receiving groove 14.
[0034] Referring to Figures 4 and 5, the conductive plate 30 is a flat plate; multiple flaps 31 are formed on both sides of the flat plate to secure the conductive plate 30 in the terminal receiving groove 14. The conductive plate 30 and the power terminal 20 are arranged parallel to each other in the terminal receiving groove 14 along the thickness direction T (see Figure 2), and a gap G (see Figure 3) is formed between the conductive plate 30 and the power terminal 20. In other words, gaps are formed between the conductive plate 30 and the power contact portion 21, the signal trigger portion 22, and the power body portion 24. Therefore, the phrase "the conductive plate 30 is independent of the power terminal 20" mentioned herein means that the conductive plate 30 and the power terminal 20 did not form any connection or contact before the insertion member 8.
[0035] In this embodiment, the orthographic projections of the elastic fingers 23 of the power terminal 20 onto the conductive plate 30 both fall within the conductive plate 30. That is, the orthographic projections of the power contact portion 21 and the signal trigger portion 22 of the power terminal 20 onto the conductive plate 30 both fall within the conductive plate 30, thereby ensuring that the signal trigger portion 22 can accurately contact the conductive plate 30.
[0036] Furthermore, as shown in Figure 6, the conductive plate 30 has a conductive connecting piece 32 disposed on a mounting edge 33 of the mounting side 13 facing the insulating housing 10, specifically at the middle position of the mounting edge 33, or at other positions on the mounting edge 33. By disposing the conductive connecting piece 32 on the mounting edge 33, the width of the conductive plate 30 does not need to be increased, thereby saving space in the width direction W (see Figure 2) of the insulating housing 10, thus enabling a narrower power connector 1.
[0037] Further, as shown in FIG6, the conductive connecting piece 32 is bent into an L-shape, having a vertical section 320 and a horizontal section 321. The vertical section 320 extends toward the side opposite to the power terminal 20, while the horizontal section 321 extends toward the mounting side 13 of the insulating housing 10.
[0038] Referring to Figure 6, the signal cable fixing member 40 has a first end 41 and a second end 42 disposed opposite to each other. The first end 41 is connected to the conductive connecting piece 32, for example, to the horizontal segment 321 of the conductive connecting piece 32; the second end 42 is connected to the signal cable 50. Specifically, the first end 41 is a frame that can be used to position the signal cable fixing member 40 in the insulating housing 10; the second end 42 is a piece that can wrap the outer sheath of the signal cable 50. The center conductor of the signal cable 50 is soldered to the signal cable fixing member 40 or the conductive connecting piece 32. That is, the signal cable 50 can be indirectly electrically connected to the conductive plate 30 by soldering to the signal cable fixing member 40, or it can be directly electrically connected to the conductive plate 30 by soldering to the conductive plate 30.
[0039] Referring to Figure 6, the signal cable fixing member 40 and the conductive plate 30 are two pieces, and the signal cable fixing member 40 is welded to the conductive plate 30. In other embodiments, the signal cable fixing member 40 and the conductive plate 30 can also be directly manufactured into a single piece by a stamping process.
[0040] In this embodiment, as shown in Figures 4 and 5, the power connector 1 of the present invention includes at least one pair of power terminals, at least one pair of conductive plates, and at least one pair of signal cable fixing members.
[0041] As shown in Figures 4 and 5, the pair of power terminals includes two power terminals 20 as described above, which can be referred to as the first power terminal and the second power terminal, respectively. During installation, the first power terminal and the second power terminal have the same structure and are symmetrically arranged in the insulating housing 10 and located on opposite sides of the slot 11 (for example, above and below the slot 11 as shown in Figure 1), for electrical contact with the two opposite insertion surfaces 80 of the insert 8. Each power terminal 20 has a plurality of power contact portions 21 arranged in a row and a plurality of signal trigger portions 22 arranged in a row. Each power contact portion 21 protrudes into the slot 11 to form electrical contact with the insert 8; each signal trigger portion 22 is forced to move away from the slot 11 after the power contact portion 21 makes electrical contact with the insert 8.
[0042] As shown in Figures 4 and 5, the pair of conductive plates includes two conductive plates 30 as described above, which can be referred to as the first conductive plate and the second conductive plate, respectively. During installation, the first conductive plate and the second conductive plate have the same structure and are symmetrically arranged in the insulating housing 10. Each conductive plate 30 corresponds to one of the power terminals 20 and is independent of the corresponding power terminal 20. Each conductive plate 30 is arranged on a displacement path of the signal triggering part 22 of the corresponding power terminal 20, and only makes electrical contact with the signal triggering part 22 of the corresponding power terminal 20 after the power contact part 21 of the corresponding power terminal 20 makes electrical contact with the insert 8, and disconnects from the signal triggering part 22 after the insert 8 is removed from the slot 11 and the power contact part 21 is released.
[0043] More specifically, the first conductive plate corresponds to the first power terminal and is independent of the first power terminal. The second conductive plate corresponds to the second power terminal and is independent of the second power terminal.
[0044] As shown in Figure 4, the pair of signal cable fasteners includes two signal cable fasteners 40 as described above, which can be referred to as the first signal cable fastener and the second signal cable fastener, respectively. Each signal cable fastener 40 is connected to the corresponding conductive plate 30 and to the corresponding signal cable 50. Specifically, the first signal cable fastener and the second signal cable fastener are respectively connected to the first conductive plate and the second conductive plate, and are used to fasten the two signal cables 50. The two signal cables 50 are respectively connected to the first conductive plate and the second conductive plate to transmit power supply signals.
[0045] As shown in Figure 3, in the pair of power terminals 20, the power contact portion 21 is used to jointly hold the insert 8, and the distance D1 between the power cable connection portions 25 is smaller than the distance D2 between the power body portions 24.
[0046] In summary, since the power terminal 20 of the power connector 1 of the present invention is already in electrical contact with the insert 8 before power supply, no electric arc will be generated between the power terminal 20 and the insert 8 during power supply. Furthermore, since the power connector 1 of the present invention directly triggers the power supply signal by contacting the conductive plate 30 with the power terminal 20, the triggering time of the power supply signal can be shortened, and power can be supplied to the insert 8 in a timely manner. The power connector 1 of the present invention also saves space because it does not require an additional signal triggering mechanism, thus making the structure more compact.
[0047] The embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail above. Specific examples have been used to illustrate the principles and implementation methods of the present invention. The description of the above embodiments is only for the purpose of helping to understand the method and core ideas of the present invention. At the same time, for those who are skilled in the art, there will be changes in the specific implementation methods and application scope based on the ideas of the present invention. Therefore, the content of this specification should not be construed as a limitation of the present invention.
