Abstract

This invention provides a compression apparatus, a memory system, and an information processing system capable of increasing processing capacity. One embodiment of the compression apparatus compresses data of a size equivalent to a compression unit. The compression apparatus includes: an entropy encoding unit generation unit that generates an entropy encoding unit for data that is entropy encoded in a single operation based on the compression unit; an encoding method selection unit that selects either dynamic entropy encoding or static entropy encoding as the entropy encoding method for the data corresponding to the entropy encoding unit, based on the entropy encoding unit; a dynamic entropy encoding unit that, when dynamic entropy encoding is selected, performs dynamic entropy encoding on the entropy encoding target data; and a static entropy encoding unit that, when static entropy encoding is selected, performs static entropy encoding on the entropy encoding target data.
