Abstract

A display device includes a first substrate, a first cholesteric liquid crystal layer, a second substrate, a second cholesteric liquid crystal layer, a third substrate, and at least one light-emitting diode (LED) sequentially stacked. The pitch of the first cholesteric liquid crystal layer and the pitch of the second cholesteric liquid crystal layer correspond to the same color light. The first cholesteric liquid crystal layer is configured to reflect one of left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized light, and the second cholesteric liquid crystal layer is configured to reflect the other of left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized light. The LED is configured to provide the color light and is disposed on the surface of the third substrate away from the second cholesteric liquid crystal layer. An automotive display device is also proposed.

Claims

1. A display device, comprising: A first substrate, a second substrate, and a third substrate, wherein the second substrate is located between the first substrate and the third substrate; A first cholesterol liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate; A second cholesteric liquid crystal layer is disposed between the second substrate and the third substrate, wherein the pitch of the first cholesteric liquid crystal layer and the pitch of the second cholesteric liquid crystal layer correspond to the same first color light, the first cholesteric liquid crystal layer is configured to reflect one of left-handed circularly polarized light and right-handed circularly polarized light, and the second cholesteric liquid crystal layer is configured to reflect the other of the left-handed circularly polarized light and the right-handed circularly polarized light; at least one first light-emitting diode is configured to provide the first color light and is disposed on a first surface of the third substrate away from the second cholesteric liquid crystal layer; and at least one second light-emitting diode is disposed on a second surface of the first substrate away from the first cholesteric liquid crystal layer.

2. The display device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one second light-emitting diode is configured to provide the first color light.

3. The display device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one second light-emitting diode is configured to provide at least one second color light different from the first color light.

4. The display device as claimed in claim 3, wherein the number of the at least one second light-emitting diode is multiple, the at least one second color light includes multiple second color lights, and the multiple second color lights are of different colors.

The display device of claim 1, wherein the at least one first light-emitting diode, the first cholesteric liquid crystal layer and the second cholesteric liquid crystal layer correspond to a sub-pixel of the display device, and the sub-pixel has an aperture ratio falling within the range of 50% to 90%.

6. The display device as claimed in claim 1, wherein no phase retardation element and polarizer are disposed between the at least one first light-emitting diode and the first cholesteric liquid crystal layer.

7. The display device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first color light is one of red light, green light, and blue light.

8. The display device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the display device is a color display device.

9. A vehicle display device, comprising the display device as claimed in claim 1.
