Abstract

This invention relates to an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition comprising: an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer; and a nickel content of 0.50 to 8.00 ppm. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition of this invention exhibits excellent haze and light transmittance, and therefore possesses superior optical properties.

Claims

1. An ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) composition comprising: an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer; a nickel content of 0.50 to 8.00 ppm; and a boron content of 50.00 to 200.00 ppm, wherein the ratio of the boron content to the nickel content is 15.00 to 250.

2. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition as described in claim 1, wherein it is in particulate form.

3. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition as described in claim 2, having a pH value of 5.00 to 7.

4. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the nickel content is from 1.00 to 4.75 ppm.

5. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the nickel content is 2.50 to 4.75 ppm.

6. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer has an ethylene content of 29 to 44 mole.

7. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition as claimed in claim 1, having a melt flow index (MI) of 2.00 to 3.90 g / 10 min, wherein the melt flow index is measured at a temperature of 210°C.

8. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition as claimed in claim 1, having an alkali metal content of 90.00 to 200.00 ppm.

9. An ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer film formed from an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition as described in any one of claims 1 to 8.

10. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer film as claimed in claim 9, having a thickness of 65 to 85 μm.

11. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer film as claimed in claim 9, having a haze value of less than or equal to 2.50% and a transmittance of greater than or equal to 85.00%.

12. A multi-layer structure, comprising: (a) at least one layer formed of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer composition described in any one of claims 1 to 8; (b) at least one polymer layer; and (c) at least one adhesive layer.

13. The multilayer structure as claimed in claim 12, wherein the polymer layer is selected from the group consisting of a low-density polyethylene layer, a polyethylene grafted maleic anhydride layer, a polypropylene layer and a nylon layer, and the adhesive layer is a tie layer.
