Abstract
Claims
1. Use of Bacteroides eggerthii for the preparation of compositions for improving, treating and / or preventing mild to moderate chronic kidney disease (CKD) in an individual.
2. As claimed in claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises Phocaeicola plebeius (or Bacteroides plebeius).
3. As requested in claim 1, wherein the 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) sequence of the Bacteroides esculenta strain has a greater than 95%, 96%, 97%, 98%, 99%, or 99.5% identity with the 16S rRNA (SEQ ID NO: 1) of the Bacteroides esculenta standard strain DSM20697.
4. As claimed in claim 1, wherein the Bacteroides strain has the 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) sequence shown in SEQ ID NO:
2.
5. As requested in claim 2, wherein the 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) sequence of the common cytozobacter strain has a greater than 95%, 96%, 97%, 98%, 99%, or 99.5% identity with the 16S rRNA (SEQ ID NO: 3) of the common cytozobacter strain M12.
6. As claimed in claim 2, wherein the common Jufusia strain has the 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) sequence shown in SEQ ID NO:
4.
7. The use of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the composition improves renal function and / or intestinal epithelial function and / or maintains renal function.
8. The use of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the composition inhibits systemic inflammation.
9. The use of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the composition improves microalbuminuria.
10. For any of the uses of items 1 to 6, wherein the individual is a predialysis CKD patient.
11. The use of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the composition improves intestinal epithelial function, inflammation, oxidative stress, renal cell apoptosis, or fibrosis.
12. The use of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the composition is in a form suitable for oral administration.
13. The use of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the composition is a nutritional composition or a pharmaceutical composition.
14. The use as claimed in any of claims 1 to 6, wherein the composition further comprises one or more probiotics.
15. The use of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the composition further comprises one or more Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Roseburia faecis.
