AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing radiotherapy treatment plans lack comprehensive evaluation methods that consider multiple factors such as Linear Energy Transfer (LET) and track ends, beyond dose distribution, to accurately predict treatment effects on patients.

Method used

A computer-based method that simulates treatment plans, analyzes multiple metrics like dose, LET, and track ends using multivariate analysis, and visualizes their relationships to determine plan quality, allowing for adjustments or delivery decisions.

🎯Benefits of technology

Enhances the evaluation of radiotherapy plans by considering interdependent metrics, improving treatment efficacy and reducing uncertainties, thereby optimizing treatment outcomes.

Abstract

A radiotherapy treatment plan may be evaluated based on a combination of two or more metrics, by the steps of simulating the result of delivery of the plan, obtaining values from the simulation for at least a first and a second metric, performing a multivariate analysis of the values and determining a quality of the plan based on the result of the multivariate analysis. The metrics may include at least one of dose, LET, track ends, RBE, alpha / beta ratio and statistical uncertainty of the plan.
