Article of footwear with knitted components having different knit directions and methods of manufacturing the same

Abstract

Aspects herein are directed to an article of footwear comprising a knit upper having an inner knit component and an outer knit component positioned at least partially overtop the inner knit component. The inner knit component includes courses that extend from multiple locations on an outer perimeter of the inner knit component and generally converge at a common portion of the inner knit component. The outer knit component may include courses that extend continuously from a lateral side edge of an outer perimeter of the outer knit component to a medial side edge of the outer perimeter of the outer knit component. Because the courses in the two layered knit components extend in different directions and may be angularly offset from each other, the upper as a whole may provide multidirectional lines of containment.
